I’m not sure why it’s taken me this long to say something about the new translation of the Battle Royale manga, but better late than never.
And honestly there’s a lot I could say, like obviously it’s a better translation that sounds more realistic (rather than like a cheesy action movie) and also fixes so many things the fandom has been complaining about for years (thank you for not having anyone in the Kiriyama Family talk about greasing up a pole).
But I wouldn’t be me if my first post about it didn’t mention Shinji and Yutaka in some way.
And I’ve gotta say, I love the decision for Shinji’s speech bubbles to have little hearts in so many of them. And look- don’t say it. I get why they’re there. I know it’s not implying his romantic interest or flirting. I get it’s showing the kind of charismatic and confident way he talks, along with some moments of general fondness for his friend.
But also, it just looks like he’s constantly chatting Yutaka up or trying to impress him, and that’s super fun for me as a shipper.
And it helps that when they first meet up, Yutaka’s speech bubbles are also full of hearts.
So, yeah, big fan of the changes! Would recommend checking it out!
Oh, also, RIP ‘Stay frosty’. You were cringe and no one has or ever would say that, but you were funny as fuck, and ‘Stay cool’ just doesn’t hit the same.
