drawing plus sized bodies is so so overlooked but honestly my experience commissioning people (keeping in mind some have never drawn a plus sized character before) is that You can get really far if you just Try. you just have to Try okay.
from the other side of the coin as an artist who has been trying again and again and again and learning over the past year I think beyond just practicing and drawing there’s a lot of unlearning conventional beauty standards as well…. It’s difficult and a more subtle mental aspect. also, I think, just surrounding yourself with other artists who draw a variety of body types is very helpful as well, you need to fill your visual library and get used to seeing bodies that aren’t like, hourglass shaped. Come to appreciate double chins, the way back fat sags, cellulite and stretch marks, the way fat softens arms, etc. and once you learn the ways of skin and fat folds an entire world opens up and you’re like hey, this is actually applicable to average and sometimes even skinny bodies.
I don’t know, I have a lot of thoughts on drawing fat. I don’t think I know so much as to make a tutorial or anything but I have a lot of amateur advice stored in my head. And a lot of beginner resources I send to people. I think it’s important to highlight that they’re beginner things and that truly no guide will help and teach you as much as first hand experience does..
I will always advocate for learning to draw fat and different body types and if it’s not enough for me to scream it every week I also throw money at so many artists to draw my own plus sized charas LOL
