hey, what do you think would happen if a yeerk inside a morph-capable host got trapped in morph? would the yeerk die of starvation in 3 days, or would they be able to survive?

So, if I've got this right: the host can morph. The yeerk causes the host to morph. The host remains in morph for more than two hours. Now what?

My best guess would be that the yeerk would be fine, actually. From #18 we get the sense that any of a morpher's forms not currently in use (even their original form) are just kind of... floating around in z-space without needs. In #49 Tobias mentions that he can't eat in human morph in order to nourish his hawk body, which suggests both that his hawk shape doesn't get hungry while Tobias is morphed as something else and that Tobias's original human body isn't in need of nourishment.

Ergo, I'd say the yeerk would get schlooped into z-space along with the host's original form, and would end up staying there forever. We know that yeerks can control morphed hosts (or else Visser Three's tenure as an andalite-controller woulda been real short) so probably the yeerk could keep control indefinitely and wouldn't need kandrona anymore. Sucks to be the host, rocks to be that yeerk.

Don't living things just die in Z-space, like the animorphs in the mosquito book?

So as other people have pointed out, the fact that Visser Three can morph and yet remain in control of Alloran's morphed body means that it's probably not as simple as "if you get schlooped into z-space as part of the leftover gut-bag of some other being, you die." We know that the mind of the morpher remains connected to the body of the morpher even as the body itself is becoming something very different. We also know that the "mind" can be a yeerk (or an andalite imprint, as in #34) in addition to being the original mind of the person doing the morphing.

HOWEVER, you're also right that #18 demonstrates that morphing can go catastrophically wrong when the connection between a z-space gut-bag and a morpher's morphed body gets interrupted by a ship passing through said gut-bag. My guess would be that the andalite ship that passes through the kids' mass in #18 is itself a bubble of real-space, and that its passage forces the Animorphs into real-space within z-space. Sort of like how you could be a spider floating along within an air bubble in the middle of the sea, but if a human submarine passes through your air bubble then it'll pop and you're suddenly a drowning spider. Within this metaphor, the yeerk is a mite riding along on the back of that spider. The spider and its mite started out on land, the spider and its mite both entered the bubble, and as long as the bubble is intact then both of them will be fine.

I'm not sure if anyone's said this before, or even if this is a question that needs answering, but I'm pretty sure Z-space is actually the fourth dimension.

I thought time was the fourth dimension?
