The worst thing to do is to ignore the one who has feelings for you!
“ Ai Ai Aah Sorry Sorry” from Zaalim
In honor of Throwback Thursday, I’m showcasing this video from the early days of my Hindi obsession.
#My Bollywood Biography: I got into Hindi through the music and movies available to me through the public library inter-library loan system. (I suspect I’m not the only one who has found life-changing material through their public library; the American public library system cannot be praised enough.) There wasn’t always the most current material available, which didn’t really matter because I was just looking for anything new to me--everything. Most of the DVDs I watched were films whose previews I had seen while watching other movies, which is why I’m so well versed in the films of the 2000s decade. Anyway, one of the things I got from the library was a CD of Anu Malik’s Greatest Hits. This had to have been before 2007, so anything more recent was not on it. I don’t know exactly why this song has stuck with me in the back of my mind when all the others have disappeared. Maybe it was that the lyrics, partly in English, made the song a little bit more accessible? I wonder if I were to find that CD again, if I would now recognize more of Anu Malik’s “greatest hits.”
I thought of this song today when someone mentioned Anu Malik writing the lyrics to “Jab Dil Miley” from Yaadein, which I recently critiqued. That led me to search for this video online, which I had never seen before!
ARTEK Zaalim (Bonus Track) + Album Stream
Underground electronic producer with a knack for across the board arrangements released his latest body of work Out of Touch last week, and it's something I've been listening to a lot. The bonus track, which ARTEK dropped a few months ago, is the stand out track for me. The locks and breaks creep with jazzy undertones and an overall sexiness that I really dig.
The EP as a whole is fluid but messy. Busy with lots of shiny things to catch your attention. Tracks like "Earth One" sound a bit like 1990s Janet Jackson inspired dance-off music. "Grief" gets all electro-tropical in this really fun way. Overall, every track has a lot going on. It's kind of intense, like Space Mountain at Disneyland for the first time. It's futuristic and sparkly with lots of twinkling lights, and then all of a sudden you are descending on a very steep incline. It's kind of scary, but the second you get off the ride, you just want to go on it again.
Listen to the bonus track above and stream the entire thing below.
ARTEK's Out of Touch is out now via B.YRSELF, get it HERE.
