When he was human, Zachariah's mother was a witch, who practiced healing and natural magic. Though he did not inherit the gene, his mother taught him herbal medicine and potion making. When the witch trials began in his village, he was accused and found guilty of witchcraft by association and sentenced to hang. Shortly after his execution, he was turned by a vampire. Daemon later hires him as Nyle's tutor to teach him herbalism and potion making.
