80s retro of 70s retro of 60s...but never predictable. iji (pronounced "eeh-hee") is led by Zack Burba of Seattle (by way of Phoenix).
Reminds at times of the Moore Brothers (in particular their Thumb of the Maid songs) though iji is a little more blatant in their love for 80s UK pop (Aztec Camera, Orange Juice, etc.) and also more experimental with their arrangements. On further listens I think of Dan Bejar, John Darnielle, and check out the blast of Neil-like guitar on the song “Bound 2 Glory.”
Whatever Will Happen came out last year on Team Love Records (cofounded by Conor Oberst).
