Western Long-beaked Echidna (Zaglossus bruijnii), family Tachyglossidae, far western New Guinea
CRITICALLY ENDANGERED.
This animal is a monotreme (egg-laying mammal).
Unlike short-beaked echidnas, which eat termites, long beaked echidnas eat mainly earthworms.
This relatively hairless individual is probably a juvenile.
