Raat akeli hai... This is a made for Netflix movie, starring Nawazudfin Siddiqui , as Jatil Yadav. Starting from the name there is something unique about him. He was originally Jatin, but a spelling error in his school by his mother (played superbly in a cameo, by Ila Arun) entry form made him Jatil, a complex character. The real uniqueness is his remaining honest in the murky city of Lucknow, UP. Raghubir Singh, a Zamindar , had been murdered in his haveli , hours after his second marriage. Jatil is sent there. All the family members and the house help are going about the situation , quite casually . All members are suspects...There's the new bride, Radha (Radhika Apte) , who we quickly learn was his keep. There's the pregnant daughter and son-in-law, there's a son who is under some spell, or is drugged . There's a nephew and a niece. There's a sis in law. There's also his mother. The local MLA adds to the list of suspects. Some house hold help, of course. Typical household in patriarchal India. A real nice whodunnit , complicated by the fact that Jatil is falling for the suspect number one , Radha. The investigation slowly lumbers on in the the first 90 minutes of the 150 minute movie. And then picks up pace and ends with us finding out that the murderer is .... Don't worry, no spoilers by me! Initially, the director tries too hard to create a background, which lengthens the movie, unnecessarily. Nawazzuddin is good in his role , but, I think Radhika Apte is not kept to her earlier promise. Most of the other actors are in the background , and don't stand out. A nice movie to see in these lock down times, specially if you enjoy either rural India movies , or if you enjoy a murder thriller 3.8/5 for me Rajesh Gupta @RReviews_etc #zamindar #womantraficing #whodunnit #knivesout (at Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh) https://www.instagram.com/p/CDc7xOXJD0b/?igshid=p72xkvihxa53
