on today’s “Bastille mysteries”: -who is hoarding the URL wwcomms.tumblr.com and what are they planning -when will glory at capital studios come out -will the descent ever get released somewhere you can buy it on iTunes -will Grip ever get justice -why did dan smith steal the name of the leader of his evil company from an obscure episode of The Simpsons
whats the name of the wwcomms leader you mentioned in tht post
I was talking about “Laslo Panoflex” who is supposedly the character who runs WWCOMMS. at least according to this letter/announcement thing Dan posted for the fake press conference thing they did after the album came out.
The only other mention of him is on similar letters (telling people to post pictures on social media) that were included with the survival packs at tour dates. And I think his name was written on one of the Polaroids in the survival packs too.
No one actually knows who he is, other than that he has a cool signature, he’s kind of sassy, and that he appears to be running things. Some people think that he’s the Fake It guy. (Personally I really hope not because 1. the Fake It guy is clearly not the one in charge if he’s getting all mad about scripts and being told what to do 2. the fake it guy seems to be some sort of politician/news guy, not a CEO and 3. do you really trust the fake it guy with anything, let alone the management of a company, oh my god)
But the really bizarre part is? Laslo Panoflex is already an existing character. Apparently he’s an obscure Simpsons character who’s some sort of movie director. More accurately, he’s a character that never actually existed beyond being named and having a Hollywood star as part of some weird joke. The name (it’s spelled differently which is even weirder) appears to be a combination of some other director named László Kovács, and a brand of camera called Panaflex.
No one has any idea why Dan or the boys or whoever comes up with all the WWCOMMS stuff stole this name from an extremely obscure joke. I mean, it is a pretty Dan move, considering how he likes his obscure references...additionally, many parts of the WWCOMMS campaign project have been somewhat plagiarized from other obscure sources. (The logo was originally from some DJ, and the acronym is from an existing radio station called World Wide Communications. None of these sources were ever contacted from what we can tell, and this might even be part of all the weirdness/social experiment.)
TL/DR the character who supposedly runs WWCOMMS shares a name with a one-off joke character from the Simpsons, and there is no explanation for this whatsoever.
will be taking a semi-break over the next two weeks. going to try and focus more on school work, reading actual books,@ and writing stories. I won't be completely gone but i will be less active
