Image by: @beverlyjoubert Gathered together like ants around a sugar bowl. Zebras congregate in the shallow water that has covered the Makgadikgadi salts pans. They look like one unit but are in fact thousands of individual family groups all driven by an unbreakable urge to move with the rains. After decades of being cut off by a veterinary fence to keep wildlife separate to cattle the fence has dropped and the zebras are back, following a route vreater than that of the great wildebeest migration of the Serengeti and Maasai mara. Knowing that the famous wildebeest and zebra migration brings in thousands of tourists every year, the re-emergence of this ancient migration raises interesting conversations and financial questions and perhaps warrants a closer look at the benefits and detriments of the fences that still remain. #Makgadikgadi #zebramigration #ancientwildliferoutes #botswana Follow: @beverlyjoubert for more.
