Ze had always hated sleeping alone. It wasn't that he couldn't or wouldn't, but he would much rather not. You see the nightmares weren't nearly half as bad when there was another body next to him, warm and distracting, like a skin and bone dream catcher. But in a spare room in Colorado, no where near his own bed and completely lost in the queen size sheets Ze's nightmares would take advantage and the thought was terrifying .
The Canadian woke up crying, cream coloured linen clinging to his body and the taste of a scream still lingering on his tongue, had he been loud? He listened for any commotion, any sign that his terrors had somehow woken one of his hosts, but luckily he heard nothing except the sound of his own heart beating fear coloured blood through his veins.
He wasn't sure why he let the dreams have such an affect, he guessed it wasn't really much of a choice. After all how could he ignore the ghastly images his own mind pasted across his eyelids? The horrific movie that burned into his pupils over and over again, he could not get away from it and he was tired. Tired of being the guy everyone else had to look out for, tired of never being good enough, tired of crying and God was he tired of brown eyes and full sleeve tattoos.
Slowly Ze sat up, he couldn't bare to be alone much longer, he was scared and his cheeks were still puffy from the tears and as he creaked his way up hard wood stairs he swore his heart was going to jump from his chest. He needed someone, he needed Aleks and he knew that this was a mistake, to take himself into that man's bed and not kiss him would be impossible, but he didn't really care right now.
The brass handle was cold in his sweaty palms and Ze's breathing was heavy as he pushed the door to Aleks' room open, air from the fan in the corner hitting him in the face as soon as he entered. Aleks was lying on his side, back to the window and mouth open, soft grunts coming from him every now and again and Ze smiled, he felt better already.
'Aleks?' Ze hissed, approaching the bed, the Russian not stirring.
'Aleks? Aleks wake up' Ze shook him this time, putting his hand on his shoulder.
'Wh-umf what?' Aleks mumbled, pushing his face into the pillow and bringing it back out again to see Ze kneeling on the empty side of his bed, wearing nothing but a black t-shirt and blue check boxers, Aleks blushed.
'What is it Ze?'
'I had a dream, well not a dream, a nightmare, but nightmare sounds so childish doesn't it? And I don't want to be pathetic, but Aleks it was horrifying and there was blood and I really don't want to be alone right now and I get...' Aleks shut Ze up mid sentence by putting a hand on his chest and using it to push the Canadian on to his back, pulling the blanket around them both so they were completely hidden to the shadows or whoever else might see them at two in the morning and the warmth was suddenly everywhere, all over both their skin and up their spines and in their fingers and Ze wasn't afraid any more.
'Don't worry about it' Aleks' voice was soft in Ze's ear and it was still slightly groggy from sleep and Ze wanted to tell Aleks everything. He wanted to tell him that he was madly in love with him, he wanted to tell him that he thought he was beautiful , he wanted to tell him that he made him feel safe and he wanted to tell him that his bed felt like home, but he couldn't get the words out, because he was yawning now and his eyes were heavy and before he knew it he was falling asleep. Dreams no longer filled with fear, but instead overflowing with things like brown hair and hipbones and thin arms around his waist and Ze knew there would be time to tell him all these things in the morning, because he knew Aleks would still be lying there next to him smiling and making plain white sheets look ten times better than Ze ever thought they could.
