I think I'm finally able to pin point the character trope I'm so attracted to and that is characters with a lot of hubris that ends up costing them their life

this solution can be explosive if handled incorrectly (eg. put liquid organic material in the solution, added too much hydrogen peroxide, etc.) and it turns any organic thing into co2 or a black mushy mess in a matter of seconds
