Prompt Fill: AU where Logan gets a crush on Julian freshman or sophomore year
This was a clever prompt. I hope I did it some justice. ^_^ If something like this had happened, I would imagine it going down a little bit like this...
Freshman year was finally drawing to a close. Logan reflected upon his first year at Dalton that had definitely required some getting used to. He was familiar with the Windsor twins’ antics, but he didn’t understand how an entire dormitory of students could nearly if not equally possess the amount of energy and knack for chaos that the Brightmans did. Logan had always been an avid learner, but even the most studious of boys were challenged in the course load there. Regardless, being a member of the Warblers and making friends with Derek and Julian helped make the year less stressful.
His thoughts lingered on these two boys who he first met at orientation. Over just a year, they had learned how to withstand Logan’s temper; even on the blond’s worst days they could forgive him. This was new. In fact, all three were cruel to one another from time to time. It was embedded in each of their personalities. Yet, in subtle ways, they managed to help each other out and knew, without words, that they could rely on each other. They were some of the only people to overlook each other’s sizable egos. Logan presently smiled upon thinking of their trust that went unspoken because they definitely weren’t prone to speak sentimentally to one another. Their uncommon relationship worked fine as wordless understanding.
Logan packed what he planned to take with him back home for the summer, or at least for as long as his father made him stay. As he did so, he realized that the last of the few times the trio had explicitly confided in one another was when Logan had come out to Derek and Julian. It wasn’t a huge ordeal, like how his father disapproved and dismissed it as Logan just acting out. It had become a bitter topic between the father and his son. The moment with his friends, however, passed as casually as it had come, and Logan was grateful for their acceptance. Neither Derek nor Julian minded. It was just a new fact of who Logan was, that they accepted. Even though Derek notoriously dated many girls, he wasn’t made uncomfortable by the news. And even though Julian--
“Well, come to think of it, I know nothing about Julian in this respect,” Logan thought, and he paused his packing as this dawned upon him. However, he just as quickly shrugged it off and resumed his efforts.
“It isn’t like that matters.” They didn’t regularly tell each other everything anyway, and some things they just happened to pick up on. “I mean, think about what you know for yourself. He’s probably straight. He’s got to have dated many girls in California. Not that I’ve noticed him involved with anyone here since we met. But, hell, he’s probably got girls lining up at the door,” he smirked to himself. “What with his perfect smile, and nice hair, and beautiful sepia eyes.” Here Logan paused again. “Did I mean beautiful? I mean they are but...no, I mean they’re nice is all.” And that was that. Until later that day.
Logan was waiting for his ride to the airport outside, watching students parting ways with companions for the summer. He had said goodbye to Derek, who was staying in Stuart for the summer, earlier on. He realized it might have been polite to at least let Julian know he was leaving, when the actor seemed to appear at his side out of thin air. He, too, was going home for the break. It was still a little strange to see Dalton boys out of their uniform, even ones he was particularly familiar with. Julian was already dressed for warmer California summer in a muscle tank that showed off his nice arms. “Nice arms? What the hell, Logan? I mean...I guess it’s normal for friends to compare bodies. And...and Julian just has a nice one. Anyone can see that. Moving right along.” Unfortunately, Julian had quirked an eyebrow above his sunglasses, conveying that it was in fact out of the blue for Logan to be looking at him so long in such a strange way. And that he had caught him in the act.
“Shit.”
“You could take a picture. It would last longer, and if you’re lucky, I’ll sign it.”
Logan snorted at the brunet to disguise his relief at the snarky comment that prevented him from having to speak first after this moment of awkwardness. “You sure must think highly of yourself to believe that I would take you up on that offer, don’t you, princess?”
“Whatever. I wasn’t the one giving you the look-over, now was I?”
Logan glared at him (in what he hoped Julian couldn’t tell was embarrassment), and shot back, “You wish I was, but in reality, I think that must have just been your delusion that absolutely everyone worships the ground you stand on.”
For all of a few seconds, Logan could have sworn he saw something flash across Julian’s face. “Disappointment? If so, good. Someone should put him in his place. Because whether he was messing around or not, I was definitely not checking him out. But…” Was it maybe actually sadness he saw instead? Why? He quickly dismissed these concerns, as quickly as Julian seemed to dismiss whatever feelings Logan had or had not seen the shorter boy disclose. “Maybe it was just my imagination. Probably nothing to be concerned about. Julian’s fine, I’m fine, why have I been looking at him so much? Why have I been thinking about him so much? What has gotten into me?”
“Everyone but you, squid. Read the papers.” Julian tossed his hair for dramatic effect, and things were normal again. Teasing insults. This was familiar territory between them. If they had problems, they would talk them out. Or scream them out. But both brushed aside the unusual occurrences of the day. It had been a long year. They both needed a break. “And I definitely am not thinking about him this way.”
“Try to have a good summer without me,” Julian threw in as his ride at last arrived, and he strutted away. Yes, space was exactly what Logan felt he needed after that unsettling conversation, but he had at last concluded that Julian must be straight. After all, Julian wasn’t the one caught accidentally admiring (was he actually admiring--?) Logan’s body, for example, and treated him and Derek strictly as friends.
After casting aside these confusing thoughts that had so abruptly come and gone, he thought, “Damn. Maybe I ought to find a boyfriend next year. It might make my life so much simpler.”
