Zen was excited. He’d been allowed a break for a few days to relax and do whatever he wanted, and he’d been able to convince Mitsuhide and Kiki to allow him to camp out for a day or two, so long as he stayed on castle grounds. And of course, as long as Obi also went along just in case.

Which was actually exactly what Zen wanted anyway. He packed a few things in his travel bag, even though he was just going to the woods on the grounds, and could come back and get anything if he really needed it. The guards had been informed so if they saw a campfire they wouldn’t worry or bother them. Because the point of this was for Zen to have some mostly alone time.

He had everything he wanted to take with him, and made his way to the edge of the woods, before he called for the other quietly. “Obii~ I am here finally.”

Obi helped him a lot with healing, but what his lover didn’t know was that when he finally slipped into a deep sleep, Zen was getting up each night, using his sword and the wall to force himself to stand, and using the support of both to force himself to walk.

Until one night when he didn’t realize Obi had woken up, and caught him. He was already halfway across the room, his legs shaking a bit but Zen just grit his teeth and kept going. He had to get better. Faster, faster.

It seemed harder to focus on work lately, because his thoughts were distracted. He still got it done but he had to forcibly keep his mind from wandering lately it seemed. And a certain dark haired golden eyed ninja was to blame. 

Zen found himself taking more breaks now and then, to try to clear his head, but it didn’t always work. He was taking a walk at the moment, wandering through the castle corridors. This particular stairway though, was currently empty. 

And he couldn’t help himself. “Obi.” Called for the other, wanting to see him.

Obi was doing better now, finally. He was mostly healed though he still had to take it easy, and Zen kept his eyes on him to make sure he was. Zen worked diligently, and extra hard, to make up for the time he’d missed out on waiting for the other to be out of the woods. 

But they hadn’t had as much time to spend together the last few days, and Zen was feeling deprived of Obi’s presence. So he forced himself to take a break, and take a walk. Not even Mitsuhide complained, because Zen had a bad tendency to run himself into the ground after situations like that, and seeing him actually taking breaks, the other was really pleased. 

But walking around like this, he always seemed to end up in that wing of the castle again. Despite the fact that to the rest of the castle it was pretty much insignificant, to Zen it was full of memories now. The best kind. He poked his head into one of the empty rooms, dusting off and looking through one of the boxes of things. This wasn’t unusual for him, he liked exploring the things in here. But even so.. He could always tell somehow now when Obi was nearby. 

“I can feel you watching me, Obi.”

“Obi?” Can tell he’s flustered and that something is wrong.

Obi didn’t have to ask him twice, although how Zen chose to touch him was probably not something he was used to. Nor what Obi was expecting.

Hands reached out slowly, gently brushing over Obi’s skin, very slowly sliding from his hip, dragging up his side and then up along his back. It was as if Zen was trying to memorize the feeling of the other’s skin under his fingertips, but also it was loving, sensual, and full of meaning.

He knew Obi wasn’t used to this, didn’t know what it really felt like to be touched so gently, so lovingly, but right now, Zen was determined to show him.

His other hand reached up, one finger gently tracing along the other’s jaw, to his lips. It was slow, almost seeming hesitant, but it wasn’t. 

The hand on his back pulled him closer, but gently, and the finger that was left resting on his lips before slowly lowered, replaced with his lips, in a soft, gentle, almost fluttering kiss.

This is what it felt like. This is what it felt like to be loved. At least, what it felt like to be loved by Zen.

Casually just wanders over to Obi and just hugs him and kisses his cheek.

After everything that happened recently, Zen decided now was the time. He’d sent Obi out earlier on a nearby errand, knowing that he’d be back soon, he’d snuck a surprise for him back into the palace, and into Obi’s room, where he was waiting too. 

When he felt Obi’s presence returning, since he could always sense him, he smiled. “Obi. I’m in your room. Come here, I have something for you.”
