Okay fuck this shit Zayn Malik will always be the boy who taught me to love and embrace my heritage, that my religion is not something I should be ashamed of. Being the little girl that didn’t get to play Disney princesses because “you don’t look like them” and getting ridiculed for bringing biryani for lunch instead of ham and cheese taught me to hide my beliefs and heritage and to wish that I could look more like the blond haired blue eyed models on telly. And then Zayn Malik, a splash of color in this white washed media, comes along and helps me unlearn the racist bullshit I’d been a victim of my whole life. And it’s not just me. Millions of people of color have been inspired by him and the way he holds his head high in the face of countless threats and daily barrages of blatant racism. People are so determined to tear him down for proudly proclaiming “Yeah I’m Pakistani, yeah I’m Muslim, and yeah I’m proud of it” and it just shows how two faced and whitewashed the media is. Like all I want to do is give him a hug because Zayn Malik is too good for this world.
