Oh, Perrie...
Perrie was started as a PR stunt, but I don’t believe it was intended to go as far as it did. I think Perrie was always much more invested in Zayn than he was in her. She was on the same show that Zayn was discovered on, and they were introduced to each other by the show and were being managed by the same management team. I think it started as a great friendship and benefits and she tolerated all the crap surrounding Zayn because it benefited her by keeping her names in the news. I think she was introduced because management was scared about no one in 1D had girlfriends, especially not the really friendly Zayn and Harry. Arguably, the two best-looking heartthrobs in the group. I will always think of Perrie and Zayn as really good friends, that hooked up from time to time. You can’t look at Perrie and be as comfortable with her, as Zayn clearly is in pictures if you don’t like them and trust them on some level.
I’ve lost the notion that she was a beard, because I’ve lost the opinion Zayn was hiding who he is. I don’t think he knew when they met, and I don’t think H was a intended to get inside his being the way I think he did.
Timelines:
According to various timelines you can find floating through the internet, Perrie and Zayn started dating around May of 2012. They were engaged in August of 2013.
Shortly after Zayn and Perrie become a thing, Perrie has to delete her Twitter account because of all the hate directed her way, and fans were convinced that her relationship with Zayn is fake.
The first rumors about cheating occurred in August 2012. After rumors circulate Zayn quits Twitter on August 21, 2012. On September 25, 2012, the Chrystabel Riley audio is released. In the Audio, in which there is clearly more than one girl in the car, Zayn is telling the girls how to get past security and get to the 17th floor. “If Harry wants booty he has to wait, did you say”(which still makes me laugh...btw...) January 27, 2013, Zayn is rumored to have cheated on Perrie with Australian waitress Courtney Webb. According to her, they met at a nightclub, he brought her and some friends back to his house, and they had a moment. She has pictures of him kissing her cheek, and of him sleeping in his bed. Apparently, she put him on blast because he called her a taxi upon awakening.
Zayn’s “Take Me Home” tour begins in London, on February 23, 2013. They have an eight-day break between March 23, 2013, and March 31, 2013, between Birmingham, England, and Liverpool, England. The 9-day break between April 20 and April 29, 2013, between Manchester, England, and Paris, France. The 4-day break between May 12 and May 16, 2014, between Hamburg, Germany, and Zurich, Sweden. 13-day break between May 26 and June 8, 2013, between Lisbon, Portugal, and Mexico City, Mexico.

August 1-19, 2013: He proposed. Later stating that the was quite sick afterward. Could have just been nerves with his anxiety, or it could have been something else...
August 20, 2013: Zayn and Perrie attend the world premiere of “One Direction: This Is Us” together in Leicester Square, London. Didn’t walk the carpet together because he had to do that with 1D.

September 26, 2013: Perrie states in an interview, that they haven’t even started planning anything yet. She doesn’t wear makeup in their video chats.
October 2013 Perrie tells Bliss magazine that “she’s on cloud nine” over the engagement and ring.
November 29, 2013: Zayn has an interview with Glamour magazine talking about his upcoming wedding to Perrie. Still don’t have a date or location yet.
December 2013: Zayn and Perrie are at the zoo for a date.
January 2014: New Years Party, IG post by Perrie. Perrie dressed as Cleopatra and Zayn as Edwards Scissorhands.
January 7, 2014, reported that Zayn was getting a new tattoo, and Perrie shows up after the work is started, only to be turned away by the number of fans outside the shop.
January 2014 visited Disneyland together for Zayn’s 21st birthday.

May 22, 2014, Zayn meets and spends time with Perrie’s Grandmother. IF he is meeting her for the first time, that’s just weird...almost a year into the engagement. The grandma stated to the Mirror (I know...) “Meeting him for the first time went very well, it was a pleasure to meet him”
July 11, 2014 Kiss on Perrie’s 21st birthday.
Zayn set up an amusement park at a home in Hertfordshire and hosted a birthday party in her honor.
