Little saw whet owl. They are so cute. Tiniest owls in the USA. I tried out a new technique here and it did not work out. I used brushable wax resist ( brand - zest it). It’s a way to preserve white portions of your paper but I went too far thinking it was saving me time but I couldn’t keep track of where I had put it since it is not visible once brushed onto the paper. Now I know it’s best to use it just for very small or well defined areas. I tried to fix parts of the owl with dr ph martins white ink but I lost the clean transparency which is what makes watercolor beautiful and different from oil, acrylic and gouache. On to the next one… a commission that includes a child with his spirit animal - a dragon! I know I’ll need to paint this a few times before I get it right. For those watercolor artist that have read this far…do you experience similar struggles with watercolor? (I’d love to hear how you handle it! #sawwhetowl #watercolorpainting #zestit #bleedproofwhite #artofinstagram #selftaughtartists #watercolortricksandtechniques #watercolorsaves #watercolorstory #natureartist #paintingtheskykingdom https://www.instagram.com/p/CSOJQmSsGsZ/?utm_medium=tumblr
