This time featuring Zetakoth’s motley crew of space pirates. Zeta, being based on Ridley from Metroid, is also a space pirate, but rather than the militaristic bug-people that Ridley has I think we want Zeta to be more of an actual pirate with your piratey ragtag crew, yarrharrfiddlededee.
@biryu13 had a crazy dream where she was stowed away on a ship for this version of Zeta (the prior version being the one with more metroid-esque space pirates), so the characters are based on her vivid subconscious and imagination.
Characters are unnamed right now, they’re mostly just concepts but we’ll give them names eventually.
The First Mate - Essentially looks like a bipedal crocodile with less crocodilian scutes and more leathery lizard skin; he’s big and beefy, maybe 7 feet tall or so, big and brutish and loudmouthed since he barks all the orders. He’s also more clever than he looks, being quite shrewd and perceptive.
The Cook - a mantis-like dude about 5-feet tall, has more of an upright build rather than the typical slanted mantis build (stands upright on his four legs and lacks the large abdomen of a normal praying mantis), has fairly normal human-like hands instead of mantis claws, and one or two sets of extra arms on his chest (but is missing several). Fairly mild-mannered, but nervous and twitchy, always on high alert-- might seem like he can be pushed around but he don’t take no shit except from Zeta. Has a son on board with him who serves as a cabin boy; also has like 20 daughters, but they’re female mantids, they can take care of themselves.
Braintoad - Looks kind of like an upright bearded dragon or pachycephalosaur, but squishy and wet-skinned like a toad; instead of the pachy’s bone dome, he has a clear dome that his brain is visible through. The dome is bioluminescent and shifts colors when he thinks. He’s short, like no bigger than 3 feet tall, but buff as hell and can lift several times his body weight. Dour and pessimistic, a total sourpuss.
Bald Woodpecker - basically that-- like a woodpecker, no feathers, just gross, brownish-yellow wrinkly skin and a long, flabby tail. Huge eyes with several layers of bags that make him look sad or sleepy; a total sleazeball, always trying to start shit. Probably likes to eat humans and isn’t shy about letting them know that.
Pilot Squid - massive squid-like entity, like 20-30 feet, crammed into a liquid chamber that runs throughout the ship, from which he pilots it, presumably through telepathic means. A defector from his species’ military to become an arms dealer, he stole the ship and deserted, eventually meeting Zeta, where the two worked out the mutually beneficial relationship of pilot and the small, comparatively nimble boarding crew. Also speaks telepathically (has a thick cockney english accent), but appears to have no other telepathic abilities. Saucy and salty as all hell.
Crab - the best character TBH. Basically just a huge crab, like six feet in diameter, but sentient; one of his arms got ripped off and he replaced it with an energy cannon. Speech sounds like ‘bloodle loodle loodle’ until he wears a translator (which usually he’s too lazy to do, and doesn’t give a shit about learning common languages), and then he has just the THICKEST french accent. A disgraced war vet with dozens of children, hundreds of brothers, and two wives (a pretty, elegantly-shaped and colored one and one who just looks terrifying and beat-up and monstrous-- she’s his favorite). Feisty and grouchy, but can be amiable.
That’s all we got for now haha. I’ll round out his crew with some more ideas of my own eventually but they won’t be nearly as cool. Although.... there is one more, critically important member of Zeta’s crew who hasn’t been mentioned here... but all in due time.
I commissioned the cool and talented @z0mbiraptor to draw my alien/demon/dragon OC, Zetakoth! They did the lineart and gave me the go-ahead to slap colors on him, so I did. (Got lazy when it came to shading tho meh)
I really like his limbs, esp his dragon feet, haha. They also did a good job of capturing his half-squinty expression, so I’m happy about that.
So this was a commish drawn by the lovely hackwolfin as a free prezzie as part of noctuart‘s drawing of our FFCC characters. She made him very uncharacteristically cute and we love it! 10/10 would commission again for money
