Assorted ZGI development tidbits from the strategy guide:
Beburtt (create the illusion of rain) is named "in honor of the Sound Effects Designer, Ben Burtt."
Kendall (simplify instructions) is named "for the Boston Subway stop nearest the birthplace of Zork, MIT."*
Golgatem (create a bridge over a body of water) is "named for the Golden Gate Bridge".
The In Case of Adventure, Break Glass puzzle was designed by Mason Deming during "a late night pizza design review session when he really just wanted to be home sleeping." Me too, man. Me too.
(*Naturally, you find the Kendall scroll in a GUE Tech locker, and use it on the subway map to gain access to the rest of the underground.)
I'm sorry. Hold on. What do you mean you can puzzle out Beburtt without casting Kendall on the spellcasting textbook. Who in their right mind would do this
All dialog associated with the Zork Rocks puzzle. Griff's supposed to speak up if you have him in your inventory, but this conversation is glitched in ZEngine and ScummVM.
(Transcript under the cut)
Zork Rocks: Warning. Warning. Presence of cola beverage detected. This candy will self-destruct in: 45 seconds.
Dalboz: Let's find a safe home for this stuff, okay? These rocks are about to pop in a very big way and I don't want to be next to them when they do.
Zork Rocks: Caution. Zork Rocks have been corrupted. This candy will self-destruct in 30 seconds.
The Griff: Uh, not to rush you or anything, but you know - you realise that we're going to EXPLODE in a few seconds, right?!
Zork Rocks: Danger. Danger. Meltdown is imminent. This candy will self-destruct in 15 seconds.
The Griff: Look, I'm trying very hard to stay calm here, I really am, but you're not helping any by wandering around like this! Can we DO SOMETHING PLEASE?!
Dalboz: Hit the floor! Ditch the candy! CLEAR THE AREA! These suckers are gonna blow, any second now!
Kickstarting this blog with shameless player character posting yee haw. Grand Inquisitor was my introduction to the series, so of course the AFGNCAAP was gonna be the first adventurer I'd tackle a design for.
I've always liked how grungy the aboveground feels in that game, and how the mechanical tech clashes with the more magical GUE. So - tried to make my AFGNCAAP a mix of both.
My submission for NASA's ZGI moon mascot contest. She was supposed to represent and honor not only Laika herself, but all animals that were experimented upon in the name of space exploration.
Congrats to all the finalists! All your designs are so cute and creative that it's hard to pick a favorite
Image description: This digital drawing shows the appearance and dimensions of the proposed ZGI (zero gravity indicator) design "Space Angel Laika" on a dark blue background.
It is a plushie of the famous "space dog" Laika with white fur, an orangish-brown head and dark brown markings on the ears and face. Additionally her muzzle has a white marking which extends to her forehead. Laika has little blue angel wings, refrencing the fact that she didn't survive her trip around the earth's orbit. Her inner ears and large, round paws have the same color as her wings, with the paws also having the shape of a yellow crescent moon on them. Her eyes are large and black and have yellow star-shaped sparkles. The heart-shaped nose is the same black color as the eyes. She is also wearing a pastel purple thermo-vest. A neutral facial expression has been chosen for the design.
The handwritten light blue text as well as the arrows in the drawing show that the plushie would be 9.7 centimeters tall, 15 centimeters long and 9.3 centimeters wide.
The drawing is sorrounded by a light blue background. Above the image is the name of the ZGI design in a futuristic purple font accompanied by an icon of a crescent moon of the same color. to the lower right corner of the title is a subtitle that says "design made by NaN (not a name)". The artist name is covering up the artist's legal name for safety purposes.
On the lower left and higher right corners of the image are two purple stars. To the lower right of the image is a purple rectangle with white text which describes the materials that would be used for the plushie. It goes as follows:
"Materials
fur, wings, paws and inner ears: white, brown, orange and blue cotton fabric
vest: light purple beta cloth
eyes (including sparkles), nose, mouth and crescent moons on paws: flat and stitched on with white, black and yellow thread
paws are slightly convex and filled with stuffing (The astronauts can squish them for stress relief)
