Seriously, Sokka is like the best guy in Avatar. He can't bend or fly around or anything, but he does the right thing and wins because of it. He's not a genius like Azula, but he can think on his feet and think about things logically, which puts him ahead of almost everyone else.
[Exactly! I remember at the beginning of the first season I thought he was so useless, and then he just amazed me and kept on making my jaw drop at some of his brilliant ideas and actions. He's sweet and kind and caring, and it may seem like he's wrong sometimes (ie misogyny and such) but he's completely willing to learn how to be a better person. When he feels useless, he goes and learns how to use a sword instead of sitting on his butt and moping like most people would. He may suck at public speaking during the series, but he practically put together the entire invasion by himself for the Day of the Black Sun, too. And he's the group big brother, always watching out for Katara and Aang and Toph even when it doesn't seem like it.
