Better LATE THAN NEVER….????

Clothing, gear companies and fashion brands should be participating in the circular economy from the start of their existence…

Zhik was founded in 2003 in AUS and the fact that recycling of wetsuits this is only coming to AUS and NZ in 2023 is a disgrace. Plus, what does this “recycling” actually mean? I for one would like to know.

Thank you Matt Belcher (CEO) for stepping up as CEO to launch this initiative. Too bad the company and the Board of Directors didn’t do this 20 years ago….

WTF - 20 years of wetsuits going into landfills and/or being shipped offshore likely to Asia/India or Africa. Neoprene - great for its purpose - but inherently toxic. PFCs used as water repellent - washing off into our fresh and salt waters and bioaccumulating.

And Zhik has been taking progressive steps towards sustainability…

… and I know that we can’t turn back the clock.

But dammit all, the clothing industry’s continued reliance on plastic and “recycling of post consumer plastic” and having to fight the lobbying efforts of producers, distributors, their industry organizations pushing for loopholes in legislation just sends me…Years of trying to move the needle forward sector by sector and we are still here in 2023.

And yes Zhik - we still need a “trusted source” in CANADA for wetsuit repair.
