I’m pleased to see the situation in Mozambique is getting some attention on here, but just to clarify, the region was hit by two Intense Tropical Cyclones
Cyclone Idai hit Mozambique, eastern Zimbabwe and parts of Malawi in mid-March. the category three cyclone was one of the worst in recorded African history, and according to the UN, “one of the worst weather-related disasters ever in the Southern Hemisphere”. Idai left more than 600 people dead and an estimated 1,85 million people in need in Mozambique alone.
and then, last week, a mere six (6) weeks after Idai, Cyclone Kenneth hit Mozambique, the Comoros, Malawi and southern Tanzania. Kenneth is officially The Strongest cyclone to ever hit the African continent, worse than Idai — category four on the SSHW Scale. in Mozambique, over 30,000 people were thankfully evacuated before the storm hit, but over 100,000 are still displaced and the damage and need is still great
