Bouncy takes a stand
Fang sat in the corner of the cave, gnawing on a bone while the other furies held some kind of meeting. She could hear their angry yells. One of the furies had been killed in a recent attack and they were even more mad. Even more determined to continue to take humans down.
She winced, because despite how mad she was at Chief Grey, she knew humans weren't all that bad. She knew they weren't monsters.
She knew these furies were the monsters. And she regretted going to join them, but had no idea if she wanted to go back to Haligan or not. Indigo was probably still mad at her, and no one wanted to see her anyway. Although she missed her sister.
She stiffened when Creep, who was sitting towards the back of the crowd, turned and gave her a glare. She realized they were talking about her now.
Fang perked up and looked at them, meeting Scarface's harsh eyes. He stepped off his rock and walked through the dragons toward her. "You've been living with us quite a while now, Fang. It's about time you pull your weight."
Fang stiffened and tried not to show unease under the gazes of furies she once considered family. Now she wasn't sure.
Sneak gave her a bit of a nasty grin. Zipshot scowled disapprovingly.
"You are to go on our next mission." Scarface stated. "And finally prove if you're with us or not. We can't afford weakness."
Fang swallowed and shuffled her feet. "I'm not so sure... I can do that."
An uproar followed her words, clear frustration coming from the furies. Scarface's eyes narrowed and he bent over and looked her in the eyes, his large face inches from hers.
"Let me make it more clear. I'm fairly certain, as are others, that you still care for humans. That you won't kill them." He bared his teeth. "If you're having doubts, maybe you should leave. We don't have room in this cave for weaklings and tame furies."
Fang shrunk a little. She had no idea what to say, she did want to leave. But she didn't know where else to go.
She thought of the fun flight with Kari, of hanging out with Shadow and Furi and Scoot and Song. She was mad at them, but they were better than this. "Yeah, so what?" She snapped, standing up. "So what if I'm okay with humans? You have a problem with that?" She barked angrily, staring defiantly into Scarface's glare. "Maybe I'd prefer a bunch of burnt food eating skinny fur headed humans over you hateful, disgusting bunch of cowards!" She blurted.
There was an ice cold silence through the pack. A few dozen pairs of eyes stared at her with shock, then cold anger. Scarface leaned in, clearly seconds from losing his temper. "Feel like repeating that?" He asked. "I don't think I got it."
Fang swallowed, and then took a deep breath. "You heard me. You're disgusting. All of you! You think you're doing some kind of great service, but you're just a bunch of genocidal terrorists! You're taking innocent lives, and it just makes everything worse! You're confirming what humans think of dragons every time you attack a village! At least Indigo had the sense to realize what he did wrong and turn himself in to those he wronged, and he did it for you! To protect you, and all of us! And then you do this!" Scarface was clearly getting more and more tense with every word she spoke, glaring intensly. The other furies echoed his glare. "You're all sick! Killing humans and calling yourselves heroes! You don't deserve to call yourselves furies! You're a bunch of pea brained, worm hearted, eel breathed morons!"
Bouncy finished her rant with a huff, not seeming to see the glares. She didn't care. "It's because of dragons like you that I can't be with Indigo! Because humans can't trust us!" She snapped. "And now, if you'll excuse me, I'd rather be anywhere but here!" She walked right around Scarface, heading for the gap in the murderous crowd of dragons to the exit. She'd find somewhere to be.
Except she didn't make it far before Scarface leaped on her, blind with rage.
The others stared as he grabbed her by the neck in his jaws and threw her against the wall with a smack. She cried in pain and tried to bolt, and he ran after her, grabbing the end of her tail in his jaws and pulling. There was a sickening rip and another cry, and he took his chance to jump on her again, spitting out the flaps of skin he'd ripped off. A very onesided fight occured, with the other furies jeering her and cheering their enraged leader as he clawed her. It wasn't until she stopped fighting back and was just huddled there, covered in blood, that he stopped. He backed off, but leaned close and hissed softly. "And don't ever show your weak face here again. If I see you, I'll kill you."
Bouncy turned and limped out, barely able to see. She started limping towards the nearest intact human village, hoping for help.
Scarface had ripped most of both her tailfins off, nearly destroyed one of her earflaps, and badly damaged one of her wings. She was covered in fresh clawmarks, and was shaking with terror.
Now she had an idea how Scoot felt.
Bouncy had never been more alone.
