Two days post-marathon.
THE SORENESS!!! *zombie noises*
Just kidding. ... well not really. Everything i know you are supposed to do immediately post-race i did wrong. Instead of walking for any extended amount of time followed by stretching, I walked about 10 feet and stopped altogether. I was absolutely freezing, so I put on all the clothes i could and stood inside Panera and drank the hottest tea i could get my hands on. Even though I could feel my muscles tightening as i stood there, and still didn't move. I just didn't want to, and i have been paying for that poor life decision since then.
Yesterday, I worked from home because I am pretty certain it would have taken me about 45 minutes to walk from the train to my office (normally a 10 min saunter) and i couldn't guarantee i wouldn't do it without making undignified noises. I was hurting. I took periodic breaks to get up and take a lap around the living room, foam rolled and drank lots of water. and took a lot of aleve. lol
Today was more positive. While I still had a good degree of stiffness and sore muscles, once I began walking for more than a few minutes I looked mostly normal. It was a bit awkward immediately after i got up from my desk at work and while i would like to say that went unnoticed, i don't believe that is a completely true statement. Almost everyone noticed and shared a laugh with me. Honestly though, I feel like I am on the mend. I am taking today - and maybe tomorrow - to rest, and then i am planning to try a flat, short run and see how that goes. maybe a yoga class.
