Grey eyes stare at the human that walks into the room. It’s the first time he sees him. His fins flutter a little in the still water, as his gills pump water through them to provide him with oxygen.
The human seems to be... happy? Why? Was he happy because he was caught and brought here? Was it his idea? The merman pouted at him, frowning a little bit. The tank wasn’t ideal. It wasn’t exactly providing him with enough space to swim, but he could move around pretty freely.
His caretakers had thrown in some food earlier, but he didn’t want to eat, and now his curiosity was taking over, making him forget the feeling of emptiness in his stomach.
See, there was something about the male that walked into the room. Was it the way he held himself, or the way his eyes had lit up, the colorful creature didn’t know. The spikes on his tail rattled a little against the rock at the bottom of the tank, before lazily swaying in the circulating water.
He got up, moved with ease closer to the glass wall, separating him and the human. The merman tilted his head, looking around a little, just to have his attention glued to the man on the other side.
A click, a small echoing chatter, that probably sounded like gibberish to the human ears.
Will I be gone when the sun rises?
He’d been moved so many times before he got here, usually over the course of one day. He didn’t expect to stay here for long. Which was sad, because he liked the eyes. He really did, he liked those darker eyes that stared at him.
A webbed hand pressed against the glass, followed by a pale nose soon. His gills fluttered, and he clicked again.
