Finally got this guy finished. I’m memory of Enos the Astro Chimp 36”x48” oil on linen. While doing photo research of chimpanzees I ran across the story of Enos. He was the second Astro chimp sent to space. Strapped into a space capsule orbiting the earth Enos was shocked over 35 times by electrodes as punishment for not controlling the levers properly. All the while the apparatus was malfunctioning. Enos was performing the task correctly. My reason behind painting primates is two-fold. First to bring awareness of the fact these primates are endangered and we can’t keep treating the earth with such disregard. The second reason is a reminder of the fact that no matter how advanced we become as a society we are still behaving like Neanderthals(first man).
