Oh man... Spellbound... this sure was a limited... There is literally only one important fact about this book, and that is that it was US Marvel’s first bi-weekly comic that wasn’t MCP and its anthology format... and it was kinda the watershed moment because as we move from the 80s into the 90s Marvel will start doing this with all of their flagship titles, and the sheer overload of books will actually be a part of the cause of the comic book crash of the 90s... but I am getting WAY ahead of myself.

I’ll also be super honest... this is a mostly so-so series... the only thing that kinda carries it is that it has some pretty good art in it, like this pinup here is awesome.

So Zxaxz first became a Spellbinder to fight this guy, simply referred to as  “the Other.” It seems like Spellbinding is a vicious cycle where you pick it up to fight off some big evil, only to then become evil yourself and force someone else to pick it up and so on and so on.

Here is the reason why I have to read these books... because there is one cross over with the New Mutants... dems the breaks.

This whole run they ahve been showing that Sepllbinding actually runs on the Fortune family, and here we see Roy take on the mantle of Spellbinder after Erica casts the bands off... and then we start with the whole “we both have to die!” speal that ignores that yeah and then technically Roy would have to die too cause this thing will just keep going on forever otherwise.

There is a lot of stuff in here that could be good, but it just doesn’t land as well as it should... it does have the feel of like a late 80′s adventure moden meets fantasy movie... I dunno, like I said, very middle ground.
