Fresh Focus For What’s Next

Over the past month since we launched our “kick it” experience we have heard a lot of great feedback and been paying particularly close attention to some key metrics. The things we keep hearing is:

“its a great idea”

“works really well”

“love that it pulls both our calendars together”

Which is all very encouraging, however as we look into the metrics I believe we have created something amazing that is maybe a little to hard to use, and the commitment level is high. As we look for where to go from here the whole tagback team wanted to take a step back and make sure what we are creating is something that enriches your life and friendships.

With that goal in mind, today we are launching the first of many new features to come. Over the next 2 months we are going to be working really hard to deliver something new about every other week. Things may have a more “beta” feel than they do now but we wanted to get things out to you quicker than we have in the past, and we want your feedback on everything we build so each feature will have this feedback button

Kick it with us tagback 2.0 is here

Since my last post the whole team here at tagback has been putting in overtime to deliver something we are truly proud of, and today I wanted to share that with you.

Over the past few weeks we have given early access to our new “kick it” feature to some great people and what they have done with it is really awesome. Two weeks ago a friend of mine invited me to grab lunch with him, two friends shared a day at the zoo, and with just a few easy taps sushi girls night out were all set up. This is just a small sample of all the friends who have been kickin’ it over the past couple of weeks.

Let me show you how easy it is.

Next time you login you should see some recommendations for people you might want to kick it with this week. I haven’t seen my hipster friend Oliver in a while. Since I couldn’t live without coffee I’ll let him know thats what we should do.

Heres where all the magic comes in. Tagback will pull both your calendars together and recommend sometimes when you can meet. Say goodbye to the awkward back and forth text dance.

And that’s all there is to it. We’ll help you choose a time, place, and manage all the communication. Its super easy to add the events to your phone’s calendar. Even if your friend isn’t as cool as you with the new tagback app, they will still be able accept your invite and add it to their calendar from our whole new website.  Check it out (here)!

Around The Bend

This week I am so excited to talk about what is just around the bend for us here at tagback. The whole team has been hard at work trying to build experiences that help you connect better with your friends. In our minds, social networks and apps have made so many things easier for us, but finding time to see friends is not a nut anyone's been able to crack just yet.

We don't want to give too much away, but we really think our feature will literally bring people together in ways that would take much more time otherwise. We’ve all done the dance of texting back and forth trying to find a time to meet up with someone, it’s almost as awkward as my junior high dances. Fortunately you don’t have to walk across the empty gym floor, tagback will do the heavy lifting for you so you can focus on seeing your friends.

As you can imagine, for this to really work we could use a little help. If you’re interested comment this post and you’ll be a part of the cool kids club getting early access to these features before they are released. Your voices are critical in our ability to create products that help you see your friends more easily.  

We hope you are as excited for these enhancements as we have been to create them. We feel seeing this feature will help further solidify in all of your minds the mission we are on at tagback.  Its been a fun road and we looking forward to putting it in your hands in a few weeks (or days if you comment on this post for early access)!

Share The Love - Valentines Day Contest

I love my city. You may or may not know it if you’ve never been to Cincinnati, but there is a lot going on right now with local restaurants and craft breweries popping up all over the place. This got me thinking about what certain people give us when we spent time together. This week I was with a friend in a local brewery, I was sipping on a lemon basil brew (amazing right) while he was eating a bratwurst with some fancy ingredients I’m not even going to attempt to spell, from the pop-up restaurant put on by a local chef. As we got to talking I learned about a local restaurants that just opened and some volunteer work my friends getting involved in around the city. All things that I never would have know if i didn’t take the time out to spend with him.

We’re hard at work at tagback on a new feature that is going to make getting together much easier. We may reach out to a few of you and see if you want to “test drive” the new functionality before anyone else gets their hand on it, so stay tuned and thanks in advance!

Another idea we have been noodling with has been how to thank you all for using our app, while also helping you REALLY thank the people who make your life more fulfilling. In the spirit of the Valentines day, we wanted to share the love. Whether Valentine's day makes you excited or want to go into hibernation until next week, we wanted to have some fun while appreciating the people who make our lives better. here’s the gist:

How We Got Here

Thanks to all of you for your interest in our app, tagback.  We have been hard at work trying to get our beta up and running, and appreciate all of you embarking on this journey with us.  My three co-founders and I have been wanting to keep in touch with you all mighty beta-testers, and we thought a weekly “conversation” letting you know what’s on our minds.  But we don’t want this to be one sided so please respond with comments and thoughts - that’s what we want!

For this first post, I thought it made sense to give you all the backstory on tagback, and to help show you where we’re going.

Six months ago I quit my job with two goals in mind 1.start a company with my full attention and 2. spend more time with my friends. I felt my relationships went on the back burner ever since working at a higher stressed corporate job.

While on a visit to Cincinnati another founder nudged me about an old idea we had worked on in a New York office. After a couple of pots of coffee and a few brainstorming sessions, there were enough post-its on the walls to keep officemax in business for at least the next 100 years.

We took those post its and starting circulating the idea with friends, and did a survey to see where this could go. We heard your thoughts about our original idea, and shifted to focus on helping you deepen your closest relationships by making it easier for you to get together in real life.  I know right, an app that wants you to put your phone down (gasp) and talk with someone in person. With all of the tools out there now that help you to superficially keep in touch with friends (seeing pictures of their birthdays on facebook, messaging them a joke via iMessage, snapchatting a pic of you with no makeup on), we have all started to settle for anti-social ways of being social. But we still think taking time to see each other separates your “contacts” from your friends. Our passion is to make it easier to find time in your busy to be a real friend, not just a online profile.

It’s now six months later and the two reasons I made the leap from the corporate world into the startup world are both becoming a reality with tagback. I look forward to where this app takes us, and to working with all of you to make it great.
