Oh my god this is such a wonderful and beautiful challenge, but sadly I'm only just now finding out about it! Is this just a one-off event or is a regular/annual thing?
Annual! The challenge will be back next year.
It was more popular than I thought it would be even with how haphazardly it was organized - next year will be more structured, this year was kind of a learning curve.

The deadline was just made 11:59pm so people knew it was midnight between June 1 and 2, not midnight between May 31 and June 1

this seems like kind of a weird question, but if we write a fic and decide to continue it afterwards, is that cool? like, tag a finished fic but then add more parts to it after the deadline? i figure they won't be included in the masterlist, but that's ok
If your story is a completed story, and you want to add another story in the same series/universe, that’s fine.
If you intend to add more to the main story, and mark it complete just to get on the list, and change it later, that’s a no-no.
Do we strictly need to write characters from our fandom as doing our job, or could we write them accompanying us to said job in a self-insert type of story as well? Kind of like training, or a job shadow, or following you around to cause mischief.
A self-insert, or anything where they just show up to your job, doesn’t really fit the parameters.
In order to be part of the challenge, it should be an AU where the characters do your job, as their job.
"If you don’t have a job, you can write about volunteering, extracurriculars, hobbies. anything that occupies your time and gives you experience and knowledge to draw on that other people wouldn’t have." So, that makes me wonder, should characters do the author's job + some of that, or is it optional, or? My question is because that made me think of being disabled/chronically ill, and I'm also a college student-- should I automatically make it a chronically ill college au, or can I choose one?

If you are a college student, you can feel free to make any sort of college AU that draws on your own experience. The life of a chronically ill student is vastly different from the life of a healthy student, so that could be the focus of your AU. (Ah, fighting with student disability services for reasonable accommodations. What fond memories.) If you’d prefer to leave that part out, you can focus on just whatever part-time job you have. Or your characters can do all of it. It’s up to you.

There is not a minimum word count this year.
Your entry does not have to be an epic. However, you know the difference between a ficlet and a fic, and any entry should be the latter.
Are we allowed to write multiple works for the same fandom, at our job? I've worked at my current workplace for a decade and I have insight on multiple positions and I wanted to explore how this place of work is from those roles. Is that allowed?
That’s fine if you feel confident you can devote enough attention to both fics.

Yes, that is within the parameters of the challenge.
I work at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, and my job is to do tours through the coal mine as if we were all miners back in the day. Would I have to write about the characters doing my job as the tour guide, or could it be with them as actual coal miners?
In the spirit of the challenge, they’d have to work at the museum.
A coal miner AU would be really cool, but wouldn’t qualify for this.
(Sidenote, that’s totally awesome. I volunteered at the Cincinnati Museum Center as a teenager, in special exhibits...I know way too much about pirates, now.)

I was part of the DCP the first time around, when the original Take Your Fandom to Work Day was a tiny little thing with a handful of participants. Most of my characters got thrown into entertainment but there were a few in other roles.
YES, anon, of course you can write about Vista Waaaaay housing, it’s a big part of being part of the college program.
Personally I was Magic Kingdom DPI (photopass) Spring Advantage 2012 (I am OLD) and I lived in Chatham building 12. PLEASE WRITE ABOUT GROCERY BINGO. (Provided that’s still a thing.)
I'm laughing so hard, I had this idea basically a couple years ago when I worked at Wal-Mart and started writing endless (unpublished) Wal-Mart AUs for all my fandom. I'm excited for am opportunity to use my new job, though.
I spent so much time at so many job daydreaming about AUs where my characters did whatever I did.

So a quick question on patameters. I work in the film industry as a writer (and on my third project as a producer), but I want to write a fic about the process of making a film. Obviously there are a lot of jobs that go into that that I haven't done (Director, actors, DOP, ADs, sound, etc). Would that still count? I've been on enough sets to know how the whole thing works so I wouldn't be grasping at straws, but does it count as something I know uniquely?
I’d say that counts. It’s going to be impossible to write about a production without casting some characters in those other roles, after all. And being on set and part of a set, it counts as something you are more knowledgeable about than others, that you can bring some unique knowledge to.
Ideally, at least one of your characters is in your role (writer or producer) but feel free to spread the rest of them around set as you see fit and focus on whichever characters you want. I look forward to seeing what you come up with!
I just wanted to get a little clarification of the rules... I'm using Supernatural and I kept Sam and Dean as monster hunters but then had them come to my work and hang/help as part of their case. Does that count? Or do they have to actually work at my job?
To stay within the spirit of the challenge, they’d have to actually do your job. If you want to keep it within canon-verse, they can be undercover, doing your job as part of a hunt, but at least one character should be actually doing your job for at least part of the fic.
