Since mid April of 2014, all my posts are culled from my own reading.

I do not select quotes for their content, but for the style in which they are written. Mostly, I intend to steal the phrasing for my own nefarious purposes.

To continue to talk a little about MST3K and what makes it special:

It basically pioneered the "commentary as comedy" style of media, and inspired a lot of later creators in terms of let's play content, and "snarking" commentary and reaction videos to things.

Back in the cable TV era, MST3K was the only media you could get that felt like "I'm hanging out with my friends in the TV", because yeah, it really did often feel like you were hanging out with the MST gang.

It was also great because they ran a lot of marathons (especially the now famous and still celebrated Turkey Day marathon), which was great for filling emotional space if you were feeling lonely. And often it ran late at night, so it was a good insomnia aid, as well, and it didn't really matter if you fell asleep half way through the show.

And that's not even getting into the *profound* effect it had on general nerd/geek humor in the 90s and early 2000s!

MST3K is very much a comfort show, for me. Something I can put on in the background when I need to feel both lightly entertained, and like I have some company in the room. I have a lot of warm and fuzzy feelings about it. I have spent so much accumulated time with them over the years, Mike, Joel, Gypsy, Crow, Dr. Forrester, Pearl and the gang are a little bit like friends.
