"I think it makes sense, actually, you've got a big heart. It'll be good for you." Kate keeps bouncing, keeping baby Avagail occupied while she looks up at Robby. "You're going to be great father to her." Giving him something to hold onto, a little life that depended on him, hopefully would give him some purpose he'd been lacking.

"Guess this means youre gonna be pretty busy from now on?" She's happy for him, she is, but part of her wonders if this is the end of whatever they were to each other. If he didn't need her to get him out of his head, if he had a whole baby to occupy his time why would he hang around her anymore?

A baby didnt deterr her from him, she just hoped he liked having her around enough to keep her.

There is something unspoken in her words that Robby reads well. It sounds almost hopeful, like she’s looking for a certain answer that won’t crush her. Confirmation that whatever they have between them won’t be ending anytime soon. 

He still has yet to define it past ‘fun’ but he knows one thing, he doesn’t want it to end anytime soon. Baby or not. He’d been prepared to hurt her by leaving on his death mission but now that he’s not going....? He wants to spend time with her. 

“Not too busy for you.” Robby says with a softness reserved only for her these days. “I’ll be off three months with her. You can stop by anytime you want.” He means that, too. It’d be nice to have some company other than a baby. 

Others will stop by, Dana, Jack, maybe even some of the residents and med students, but who he really wants to stop by is Kate. Something about her just calms him, and she already seems so good with Avigail.

listen i think at this point it's safe to say robert has become just as trusted as Jack is for Robby. He knows Robert isn't going anywhere, he's shown that time and time again even when Robby has been an ass, and he feels safe with him. plus, ya know, he loves him so there's that too.

Just because he answers pretty quick doesn't mean he doesn't see the gravity of this choice. It's gonna be a lot. It's gonna be hard... Village or not, it's... huge. Robby at least has some parenting experience, but he only just learned how to change a diaper hours ago. Considering he never even thought he'd live in an actual house again, this expands the territory of the unknown in his mind to an entire continent. Does she not have a birth certificate now? Does this mean anyone can be added to it? He wonders to himself, puzzled. He'll sign pretty much anything and take Robby's lead. In case he didn't know Robert's all in... He's BEEN all in from the beginning, long before even he knew... Way back in those days when he'd pick up coffee or candies for him 'just because'. ❝No one's saying that,❞ he assures Robby. He knows in his bones that Robby is not the type of person who tries to find the answer to his pain in other people. A distraction and a delay, maybe, but this isn't a 'fix' by any means. Rather, Robby looks outward... To how he can help the world, even if it's just one little unwanted kid at a time. Robert's wired the same way. ❝ ...'m'Gonna hold you to that,❞ he says after while, watching the steam rise and coil from the coffee Robby has forgotten to drink. ❝And I'll be right there with you for that too, if you want.❞ On that, he knows his presence can only go so far. Doctor-patient confidentiality might dictate that Robert wait in the waiting room with Avi, unless he's specifically invited to comfort Robby or offer input on something, but that plan is mentally set in stone either way. ❝My schedule's still waay more flexible than yours,❞ he adds. ❝I actually get weekends and holidays and vacation time and all that. And unless the city's burning down, we actually take the company up on that shit. I'll be around... Maybe not all the time, but as much as I can.❞ It's starting to feel realer... The weight is there. The finality of it. It's happening, and while... he knows he probably SHOULD be terrified right down to the core of himself, he's never been more calm in his life.

The puzzled look on Robert’s expression is easily readable to Robby, and he shakes his head back and forth. “She was abandoned with no record of any parents. We don’t have a birth certificate for her, and even if we did, it wouldn’t matter. A judge will put in an order for a new one with our names on it.” It’s an entire process, and while Robby’s never been through this process as an adult, he has as a kid.

“My grandparents adopted me after my mom left. I don’t remember much, but I remember how much of a process it was. Paperwork, a judge, all that. But, it’ll be fine.” There is the worry that a judge will deem him too mentally unstable, but Robert being there might help a lot. 

No one’s saying that. 

No, but he’s sure some of them are thinking it with how much he’s avoided therapy so far. Some probably think that he’ll focus on Avigail instead of getting the help he needs. None of it matters, though. All that matters is what Robert thinks and he doesn’t seem to think he’s using Avigail as some kind of replacement for therapy. 

“Caleb’s given me a list of therapists.” Finally, Robby brings the cup up to take a rather large gulp of the drink. It’s cooled enough that it won’t scald his tongue, and he needs it to keep having this conversation. “I’ll reach out to a couple.” Having Robert there would be helpful, but Robert has already done so much. “I would like you there but you don’t have to be.” If he can’t get out of work, or whatever reason it is that might get in the way, he needs Robert to know it’s okay if he can’t make it. 

One step at a time. He makes a mental note to reach out to therapists tomorrow, to somehow find the time, because he does want to get better. He means it when he says that but he knows from experience with patients, that it’s going to get a lot worse before it gets better. 

Therapy takes a toll on someone, especially when they’re just starting out, what if there are days that he can’t just deal? Having Robert being all in helps, because he knows if he can’t take care of Avigail? Robert will until he’s taken the time to crawl himself out of whatever spiral he goes in to. 

It’s going to be a lot for both of them but it’s worth it, he thinks. 

“Okay. I’ll take my days off too. No picking up extra shifts unless I’m really needed.” They’ve got this, they can do this.

He certainly hopes she doesn't mean that they should break into the office and fool around there. The shirt should be sufficient. They can always use their imaginations, like fucking NORMAL people, but he's still not sure Visi's on the same page on that front.

One of these days, she's going to talk him into it. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but one of these days he's going to cave and fulfill his fantasy. When no one is around and the place has locked up for the night, it doesn't have to be during day and work hours.

But in the meantime, maybe some fantasizing will just have to do. Courtney isn't going to pressure him into anything. Try to convince, sure, but pressure him? No. That's not her style.
