He arched a brow when the female addressed him. Giving her a good-natured smile, Ryan shrugged. “Actually I was just telling my colleagues over here but if you wanna join in, you’re always welcomed to.”
“Oh, it’s okay. I’m fine. Really.” Tamsin might have been too quick to answer, not wanting to intrude on their conversation and not wanting to be caught in a cluster of people either. “You enjoy yourself.”
“Probably– sometimes I wish sleep wasn’t that important”
“You and me both.”
Standing up from his seated position and placing his hands on either side of her shoulders, Max replied, “Look, just take deep breaths. You’ll be alright, Tamsin. You’ll be alright.” He reassured her. “Can you tell me what happened?"
Tamsin couldn’t help her reflexes, but the guilt in her reaction to his touch showed amidst strained eyes. She’d jumped away from his touch, wanting to believe that she would be okay but knowing that if she wasn’t now, then she probably never will be. “I just.. I want to go home.”
Feeling the girl tense up in his arms, Raphael immediately tightened his grip. This was a part of his training - to comfort the person without letting them loose. Most patients he came about were in a panic, most of them wanted to get away. And though he wasn’t in his uniform, and though there was no urgent call, it was all muscle memory. His hands still remained where they were, and his voice down to a calming tone. “No, I’m not here to hurt you, love.” His grip loosened, but only lightly. “Nothing’s going to hurt you, I’m not going to hurt you, so tell me if there someone that is and I’l make them disappear.”
The feeling of the man’s hold on her tightening sent her panic spiraling until there was no sense of reasoning left. Her legs gave way, even when she wanted to fight. But she had been fighting for so long, and she was exhausted. How could she have possibly believed she could start again? Dan had ruined her life; he had ruined her. A soothing yet defensive voice sounded in the back of her mind, peaking her conscious interest especially after she felt his hold loosen. Tamsin couldn’t find it in her to speak, even when she willed herself to try. She was too upset. She wanted to go home. Moving her hands from where her nails dug into his forearms, she wiped the tears from her face knowing full well that more would surely follow and tried to catch her breath. She didn’t want to be touched, and while she had originally been filled with fear it was slowly -- very, very slowly -- diminishing. “I... I...”
“You alright love? You look about as cheery as me”
“Yeah, i’m fine. Like I said, it’s been busy. It’s probably just sleep deprivation or something.”
“Nah you didn’t. Just.. why are you even staring at me. Do we know one another?”
“I wasn’t meaning to-- I didn’t realize.”
“Hey, uh are you ok?” Lara looked the girl over, furrowing her brow in concern. “You don’t look too good.”
“Stay-- stay away.” Tamsin stammered, faltering backwards.
Sara was parked next to a bench, tapping away on her phone trying to beat her high score on Fruit Ninja, when she noticed someone in her peripheral. She wanted to continue with her game, to ignore the person and mind her own business but she was having one of those days where she had a conscious. If her pain was acting up in public or she couldn’t reach something she knew someone would help her simply because she was in a chair so wasn’t it only fair she do the same to others? With a small sigh, Sara turned to the distressed woman. “You don’t look so good, do you need any help? Maybe a drink or something?” She began to dig in her purse for the water bottle she usually carried around.
“I- I--” she wasn’t sure what to say. Tamsin definitely wasn’t looking so good. Why had she thought going outside would be an okay idea? It certainly wasn’t going to happen again anytime soon. She couldn’t bare the terror; all of her strength failing.
Raphael felt his whole body jump as he heard a hand fall heavily right by his shoulder. He snapped his head back and saw a girl struggling - his whole body rushing to her. “Miss, are you - are you alright?” One hand on her waist, the other holding her’s, Rapha guided her to sit. “Are you hurt?”
Her heart leaped in her chest, moving her entire body with it as she jumped at the sudden contact. Tamsin wasn’t all too sure who had a hold on her, but she immediately sought to get away. “No! No, no--- Let me g-go!” her voice cracked, fear settling in her throat.
As Max made his way to the park bench whereon he took his routine naps, he was surprised to see someone clinging to it in desperation - someone strangely familiar and he had not seen for a relatively long time. “T-Tamsin? Is that you?” He asked, his eyebrows furrowing in worry. “It’s Max. Are you alright?”
She knew this feeling. It was all too familiar, and she wasn’t sure she could control it. The air was suffocating her, forcing every bit of breath out of her. The voice was distant, muffled by the panic in her body, but hearing the name made her force words out of her throat. “I’m not-- i’m not o-okay.”
“Haven’t seen you in a bit– you been hiding?”
“It’s been a busy past few weeks.”
“Oh– good. Yeah it’s been real good, yours?”
“That’s good-- i’m glad. Everything’s going good for me, too.”
“Just one of those nights, yeah?” he forced out a laugh, as if it weren’t always just one of those nights.
“Yeah.” she agreed, slowly forcing a nod as her hands clasped together in her lap. “How’s your year going so far?”
“ Mm, just don’t manage to hit me when you do.”
“I said I was fine.”
“Hmm? Y-Yeah, I’m fine, sorry, just a little tired– how are you?”
“Yeah, i’m f-fine. Trouble sleeping?”
“ If you’re going to vomit, there’s a trash just there.”
“I’m fine. Thank you for your concern.”
“Oh, sorry–I thought I heard something”
“It’s fine... Don’t worry about it. Nothing to be sorry for, Ollie. Are-- are you okay?”
