Frequenting Mondstat's taverns isn't exactly a regular pastime for you.
So now finding you propped up against the bar, gazing blearily out at the humdrum of intoxicated patrons as you nurse a small glass, is just the slightest bit of an oddity to Kaeya Alberich.
"I feel like I've walked into the wrong place," he comments, taking the stool beside you. "I am in the Angel's Share, right?"
You scoff, "no, you must be dreaming."
"If you're here, I must be."
"Smooth," you note, turning away to focus on your drink. "What do you want?"
"Now, now," Kaeya raises his hands defensively, recklessly sloshing the wine in his right, "Do I need a reason to come and talk to my favourite doctor?"
"When you decide to so shamelessly flirt with them in the process, I do believe so, lest they be left wondering if you've an ulterior motive." Your words are playful, enticing, accompanied with a dangerous lilt he's sure he's never heard from you before. Kaeya realises this is the first time he's seen you in an environment entirely detached from your work.
"All innocent, I promise-" his fingers are crossed behind his back- "I just wanted to talk to you."
"Then talk, pretty boy."
Oh, and talk he does.
As the hours wane in that quaint little tavern, Kaeya finds himself practically singing to your tune. It's the most incredible challenge he's ever faced, someone with a tongue as sharp as his and a wit to match. Every misdirection is turned on its head and pointed forwards again, every single flirtatious comment returned with a charm that leaves him stunned.
"I realise," he says, as patrons begin to filter out for the night, emptying the bar. "That I've never seen you until tonight."
"You've lost me," you admit with a chuckle.
"You're different here, outside of your job. I've seen the way you behave when you're patching people up and it's nothing like this, it's as if I'm seeing a completely new side of you."
"Well," you begin, leaning just forwards enough on your stool to encroach on his personal space. "Do you like what you see?"
Kaeya smiles, places his glass down, and gently takes your chin between his thumb and forefinger. He makes a show of observing you, tilting your head to the left and the right, before leaving you facing him, noses almost touching. Your breath hitches noticeably in your throat and he delights in your flustered expression as he realises he's finally won.
"Oh, darling, I'm enthralled."

this was just meant to be a little dialogue writing practice that snowballed into,,, whatever this is lmao

sometimes bakugou katsuki just needed someone to tell him they believed in him.
there was a period of time, in your third year at U.A., where you noticed he was oddly quiet. reclusive. at least, more than usual. though, he was certainly quick to snap at people when they bothered him. you didnβt think much of it at the time, but you somehow found yourself keeping more of an eye on him after you stumbled upon him one evening in gym gamma.
you were quick to hide yourself behind one of the weight racks, eyes wide as you watched him throw powerful punches at a large sandbag that hung from the ceiling. there wasnβt anyone else in the gym apart from the two of you. although, with the way bakugou kept harshly pounding at the bag, you were sure he hadnβt seen you enter, so absorbed in his training. you didnβt know if this was a good thing or not. all he needed to do was glance to his left and he would see you. but he didnβt.
you swallowed thickly, amazed yet also terrified of bakugou. he showed no mercy, didnβt pull his hits at all. your eyes zeroed in on the bandages he had wrapped around his hands and the way the white material was stained in deep red told you he had been doing this for a while.
the sounds of his large fists coming in contact with the sandbag seemed to echo throughout the gym. beyond that were the sounds of his grunts of exertion. and beyond thatβ¦ you couldβve sworn you heard him sniffling.
now you werenβt a nosy person, not really. but something had you rooted to your spot as you watched him hit away. it was mesmerizing, almost. his punches got stronger and stronger at one point until you flinched slightly when he suddenly let loose a loud explosion from his hand. the sandbag whipped up to the ceiling, scorched in ash black. bakugou caught the bag as it came sailing back down, and you watched as he pressed his forehead to it. something in your heart sank when he let out a frustrated sound. after a small moment where he just breathed heavily against the sandbag, he eventually straightened up. you could tell he was absolutely soaked in sweat, even from your distance. he went back to hitting the bag, the muscles along his bare arms and back tensing even further.
the longer you crouched there, watching him sadly, the more your chest ached. and you pretended, for his sake, that the water dripping down the sides of his face and curving along his cheeks was his sweat. not his tears.
after that night, you kept an eye on him, worried about his mental health. and it became more and more obvious to you that something was bothering him. you just didnβt know what. it couldβve been anything, really, especially since you were all graduating in a few months. exams, internships, trainingβ¦ it was all a shitshow.
you got an inkling of what it might be one night in the 3-A dorms, when some of the class was gathered around the couches talking about their plans for after graduation.
βyeah iβm thinking of staying with fatgumβs agency!β kirishima said out loud as he sat on the floor in front of the couch you were on. you were playing around with his hair since it wasnβt spiked up, enjoying how soft the strands felt between your fingers. βiβd be working as a sidekick for him!β
βnice that youβve got fatgum,β kaminari sighed wistfully, βiβm still waiting to hear back from some agenciesβ¦β you patted him sympathetically on the shoulder since he was sitting right next to you.
βsame!! i applied to the wild wild pussycats but i donβt think theyβll take me.β ashido pouted, splayed out on the ground. she then sat up. "is anyone thinking of going straight into forming an agency??"
there was a moment where everyone just kind of looked at each other. then, midoriya tentatively raised a scarred hand.
"oh, really deku?" uraraka turned her head to the left and blinked at him before a wide smile spread across her face. "wow! good luck, it seems tough!"
"yeah, i've uh, been talking with students in the business course and tracking stats for how i've been doing public-wise and i think i can do it!" midoriya smiled a little, his hand raising to rub at the back of his neck. he got some oohs and ahhs from his friends.
"i think you can do it!" you told him encouragingly, lifting a hand from kirishima's hair so you could give him a thumbs up.
"yeah, if anyone can it'll be you, mr. number one hero!" kaminari added with a grin. everyone turned to look at midoriya, who blushed and waved his hands rapidly in front of him.
βdonβt say that, there are a lot of great heroes out there, i still have a long way to goββ
βbut i mean, itβs true, isnβt it?β ashido butted in as she smiled at midoriya. βeveryone and their momβs been saying youβre projected to be the next number one hero!β
βyeah, i heard some teachers gossiping about it,β sero mentioned from next to kaminari. he stretched his arms out to cross them behind his head. "kinda wild to think about. feels like yesterday we were getting our asses handed to us by aizawa."
"that's cuz we were," you deadpanned. sero only shrugged, a faint smile on his face.
"we've all come a long way from being first years," kirishima reminisced. his eyes moved to look back at midoriya. "but i mean, midoriya, you really did improve a lot, y'know. and with your quirks i think you'll be a great symbol of peace!"
midoriya blushed some more, fidgeting with his fingers. it was kind of cute. "thanks. that... that really means a lot." the corners of his eyes crinkled a little and you smiled warmly at him.
"hey hey hey!! but don't get caught slacking now!!" ashido suddenly said loudly, wagging her pink finger at midoriya. "one of us'll snatch that position right up if you're not careful!!"
"ooooh yeah!!" kaminari let out a cackle as he let electricity dance between his fingers. "chargebolt, number one hero, symbol of peace, has a nice ring to it, y'know."
"it doesn't, but okay." uraraka giggled into her palm.
"the day denki becomes number one is the day i move outta japan," you snickered, then let out a louder laugh when he shoved your shoulder. "i'm kidding! i'm kidding!"
"okay, but what about pinky, number one hero, symbol of peace!" ashido rubbed at her chin with a sly smile. you made a face that she caught onto. she stuck her tongue out at you. "what? i think it sounds cool!"
"red riot, number one hero, symbol of peace!" kirishima interrupted over her, his arms moving so he could flex his biceps and grin with those sharp teeth of his. that could work too, you supposed.
"uravity, number one hero, symbol of peace!"
"d... deku! number one hero! symbol of peace!" he got some whistles and claps for that.
"pfft, cellophane, number one hero, symbol of peace."
"hey we can't all be number one," you managed to say between your laughs. kirishima turned his torso around so he could smile up at you.
"who says we can't? sharing is caring!"
"yeah this is OUR position in hero society," kaminari snorted.
you were so caught up in the conversation, laughing with your classmates, that you nearly forgot bakugou was also in the room, quiet. he wasn't sitting on the couches, but he was around the dining tables. it was by pure chance that you'd managed to see him slink away towards the stairs, his hands buried deep into the pockets of his sweats. your smile faded slightly as you watched him leave and you were reminded of the way he'd been acting at gym gamma.
you weren't stupid. you saw the way his shoulders were tensed, the way his head was bent. you knew something in the conversation had probably bothered him enough to make him leave. he usually hung out longer with everyone, just listening to the conversation. your eyebrows furrowed, mind made up.
you quickly excused yourself, muttering something about needing to use the bathroom. you made a beeline for the stairs and jogged your way up until you got out on bakugou's floor, slightly out of breath. you saw him slouching his way down the empty hall to his room.
"hey, bakugou!" you called out as you jogged down the hall to catch up with him. he paused, not moving his head to look at you as you came to a stop just behind him. you stepped around him to peer at his face, but he turned his head away. "are... are you okay?"
he let out a huff. "'m fine."
"clearly you're not," you said gently. you didn't want to make him blow up on you. you would need to be careful. "you know you can talk to me... right?"
"there's nothin' to talk about," he grunted shortly and continued to walk to his door. you followed, persistent.
"i think there is," you told him, hovering behind him as he clicked his tongue and opened his room door. "it might helpβ"
"even if there was," he hissed at you suddenly, whipping his face around so he could shoot you an incensed glare, "it's none of your fuckin' business. leave me alone."
you simply looked at him. he just continued to glare at you. at least, until you stepped closer and brushed your hand lightly against his white-knuckled fist gripping at his doorknob. his gaze moved down to look at your hand resting above his. there was a short moment of silence. then, he let out a tch.
"get in here," he muttered before he walked into his dark room. you perked up slightly and followed him. he shut the door behind you. it was almost pitch black in here, the only light being from the crack under his door and from the moon that shined through his open window. your eyes took a moment to adjust as you walked in further and turned around so you could look at him standing by the door.
you were patient. he looked like he was struggling to put his thoughts into words with the way his jaw tensed and he glared daggers at the floor. you weren't surprised when he let out a frustrated sound and started to pace around in front of you, his hands reaching up to tug at his hair and drag down the sides of his face. you watched on in silence.
"everyone," he eventually gritted out through clenched teeth, "everyone's... fuckin' sayin' thatβthat deku's gonna be number one." he bared his teeth at nothing. "that he's gonna be the next symbol of peace, or whatever. but... but i was the one who won all three sports festivals," he let out a snarl, practically stomping around now, "i'm the fuckin' strongest in the entire goddamn school. not him."
"...i thought you guys were on kind of good terms now, though?" you said quietly, eyes flicking back and forth as he paced. he scoffed.
"doesn't mean i'm not fuckin' pissed at him. him with his stupid fucking quirks," bakugou growled. he kicked at his trashcan near the wall, sending it toppling over. a few pieces of crumpled paper landed on the floor. you looked back up at him.
"people are just harmlessly predicting things," you told him, cautious of how he would react. "doesn't mean it'll come true."
he stopped pacing to turn and look at you with a glare. and though it was dark, you could still see the deep scowl his face was pulled into. see the way his eyes were rimmed with red. your expression softened when your eyes met and he scoffed again. he looked away from you.
"then why," he forced out before he let out another frustrated sound. he ruffled his hair aggressively. "why the fuck aren't theyβ why the fuck aren't they saying shit about me?! i'mβ" he growled and scrubbed at his face roughly. he didn't say anything else, just bit onto his lower lip and rubbed his eyes with enough force to bruise his skin. something pulled at your heart.
oh, so that's what this was all about.
you sighed softly and stepped closer to him until you could tug at his wrists and bring his hands away from his face. you looked up at him, watching the way his red eyes twitched and watered. he wouldn't meet your gaze, instead staring off to the side. his jaw flexed.
"if it makes you feel better," you whispered gently as you held onto his wrists in between your chests, "i believe in you. i know you can be number one. you are the strongest, after all."
he closed his eyes slowly, then opened him so that he could look down at you. his chin wrinkled a bit and you pretended not to notice the way his lower lip trembled.
"you're jus' sayin' that," he mumbled lowly. his head sank down slightly and you reached up a hand to brush at one of his cheeks. if they were wet, you didn't say anything about it.
"i'm not. i really think you'll make a great number one hero, you know." you smiled at him. and when he met your gaze, something in your chest hurt with the way he seemed to be hanging onto your every word. desperately, almost. like a single sentence from you could either tip him over the edge, or hoist him back up to safety.
"...really?" he whispered, so quietly it was almost like a breath of air. fragile. wistful.
"really," you breathed back, a warm reassurance that he held in his rough hands and cradled like it was the most important thing in the world to him.
having xiao brainworms tonight actually, specifically the idea of pinning back his bangs for him. normally he's skeptical when you're getting that physically close to him, you usually want something, and this time is clearly no exception. but he's used to you at this point and knows you won't hurt him, so he closes his eyes and just lets you slide the pins into his hair and tuck the rest behind his ears.
your fingers can't seem to leave the soft strands as you work, mesmerised by the gentle act of carding your hands through his hair to make sure its pinned back neatly. theres a content look upon his resting face, and you smile.
then you step back to admire your work and as he finally looks up at you, holy shit, for the first time you really get to see just how gold his eyes are.
his hair always frames his face so nicely it rounds him out and just makes him look overall pretty, but now there's attention drawn to those stunning irises of pure molten honey and you're pleasantly shocked into silence. he's always been beautiful, you know this, but taking time specifically to appreciate those eyes is a blessing you hadn't realise you needed.
he watches you curiously as your mouth gapes and shuts like a fish out of water, not breaking eye contact with you even when his brow quirks up inquisitively.
for a lack of anything more eloquent to say, you simply stumble out some incoherent sentence mildly akin to some form of praise and he smiles. and he flushes. subconsciously, his hand goes up to try and brush some loose strands of hair out of the way but he falters when he realises they're still behind his ear.
you both end up quietly, though not necessarily nervously, laughing with one another at the sheer ridiculousness of your shared awkwardness.
more often than not in the future, he begins to let you style his hair for him.
modern au spending school festivals/events with them :) /r could you do albedo xiao kazuha
hey anon! ty for ur request! just so you know, I've taken some creative liberties and kept with a college au theme for this, i wasn't entirely sure what you wanted from school events but ik the typical portrayal is, like,,,, high school and i don't write characters as younger than 18 lmao so college au events it is <3 also apologies these are so short i kind of ran out of ideas for them ππ
Spending Events With Them <3
featuring: Albedo, Xiao, Kazuha
[Genshin Masterlist]
Albedo would want to take you to a student-run science fair, or perhaps an art exhibition, but regardless prepare for a lot of walking around and looking at things. He's insightful, though, and manages to make even the most boring aspects of the events so very intriguing. But, even when he loses himself in a conversation with another student about their work, he'd still make sure you know he hasn't forgotten you're there with him.
His hand will not leave yours the entire time, fingers twined gently together as he weaves you both in and out through various display stalls. The excited glimmer in his eyes as he comes across a particularly fascinating exhibit is beautiful, though you might regret stopping and staring for too long as he practically drags you off to the next stand without warning.
Xiao would have to be coerced into going out to an event, but if you ask nicely enough he just can't resist saying yes to you. If all else fails, he can and will be successfully bribed with the promise of kisses.
Would probably most enjoy something simple but pretty, like a firework showing at the end of a festival. Where the two of you can sit peacefully outdoors, cuddled up beside one another, sneaking kisses whilst the display dazzles you overhead. If you asked, he'd walk with you through the other festival stalls beforehand and even treat you to snacks that you get to share together as the night draws to a close.
As you walk home for the night, hand in hand and smiling, he'll quietly ask if he can take you out on another date like that some time.
Kazuha would likely enjoy indulging in an event wherein you can both be creative, perhaps even make something together to commemorate the time you spent. Something like student union organised craft nights or pottery classes, etc.
There's something so sweet about the pride you feel making something with him, the way you can turn some raw materials into something absolutely beautiful (even if it doesn't necessarily look it). He regards you most of the time with the fondest of smiles, unable to help himself from stealing a kiss from you on occasion. It's clear his focus isn't on whatever you have on the table in front of you, but rather on you yourself as he simply delights in the time you're spending.
Summary: You're finally a field agent for the Knights of Favonius secret intelligence agency after transferring from tech. For your first proper mission, you're thrown in the deep end uncovering a weapons deal that is far more dangerous than it seems. (Un)luckily for you, you've been assigned to work with the Knights' star agent, Kaeya Alberich.

Finally, an official announcement post for this fic! I started writing this back in May, so it's incredibly exciting to finally be able to start posting the finished thing six months later π
As this week leading up to the first chapter's post date continues, I'll be releasing some more fun posts and background information to give some extra context and hopefully get you all really excited for this to finally come out.
This fic is going to post and update on ao3, but every week I'll be making a post over here with the new chapter link and I'll update this post with a collection of all the chapter links as well!
I'll be making a much sappier post once I've finally posted every single chapter of this, but I wanna take a second out to give special thanks to my groupchat who have helped out with and motivated me through writing this and as reward have had access to the original google doc with the whole fic for the past month ever since I finished the first draft <3
My askbox is always open for discussion about this fic as it updates, or even beforehand during this next week as I'm posting the teaser content!
