I was really interested in this artistic method of conveying artworks. This has inspired me to create some graphic elements onto my experimentation. I will make it relevant to the Korean dining culture so that it looks more cultural and unique.
Experimentation of table Longer cardboard piece scooped towards the floor. I had to reposition the supporting triangle based underneath. From a far distance, the jigsaw pieces resemble Doritos or slices of pizza. I was thinking that I should assign two people to play jigsaw together, and try to get the pieces to work as harmoniously as possible. I used the cutting knife to make all my pieces, and duct tape to secure and bind edges. The height of the table is appropriate for my design (Korean dining style). From here, I am going to continue experimenting with seats, and activities to do across this table. As a form of bonding across a dinner table, this emulates the idea of the box being used as a present or offering. Both translate the same ideas, however in a different way.
Vagueness
1. Whatâs the quickest way to get from Sydney to Tokyo?
- VRÂ
2. What is the most interesting way to get from Sydney to Tokyo. Indirect, convoluted or adventurous route?Â
Sydney Domestic Airport > Melbourne > Houston TX > NASA Launch > Mercury > Venus > Mars > Jupiter > Saturn > Uranus > Neptune > Pluto > Sydney International Airport >Tokyo Airport (Hopscotch off Plane)Â
Benefits: experience, journey is the destinationÂ
Week Two-
a performance piece made to draw attention to the everyday action of scrolling through your phone, predominantly social media, whilst on the toilet. This series of motions â tapping, swiping, scrolling â is often done as a result of boredom, and typically as a rhythmic, repetitive action with no real through given into whatâs being done.
Week One-Â
exploration of the idea that what is known as functional and comfortable can be transformed into something entirely different, something that doesnât necessarily make sense.
Week Two-
an experimental work made from powdered spaghetti, inspired by the prompt âhi test gapâ â our group interpreted this anagram of âspaghettiâ as a gap that results from a failure in social interaction and an inability to say âhelloâ.
ADAD1001 First Week:
During this lesson, we were informed about our assessments for the term that revolved around the theme of transformation.
For our first assessment, we have to transform a box into something new. I will start studying and experimenting with the qualities of different boxes in order to see what I can create as the final product.
Evaluation + Execution
Evaluation: The process of making the colouring book was quite simple with simple, crisp and clear lines. However, the process of actually designing it was quite complex. We were constantly questioning ourselves if the design is too simple in which it will not be successful in our aim to confuse others and making it a stressful process.
Execution: We will print out a few booklets for the students, and inform them to colour the circles in. There will be a key at the back for them to refer to. We will be playing fast paced music in the background to make them more stressed. There will also be a time limit to complete all the pages.Â
âA thing is never seen as it really is.â
RESEARCH:
-Â Alexandra Horowitz lamented in her sublime meditation on looking. Instead of mechanically applying or merely implying laws and rules of color harmony, distinct color effects are produced-through recognition of the interaction of color-by making, for instance, two very different colors look alike, or nearly alike.
Adult coloring books have recently gained popularity for their stress-relieving abilities, but what is the science behind this international trend?
RESEARCH:
An interesting read on the powerful nature of colouring books for adult stress relief.Â
1. Has a healing effect
2. Switches our brain off and allows them to focus in the ânowâ
âYou have to look at the shape and size, you have to look at the edges, and you have to pick a color,âÂ
âIt should occupy the same parts of the brain that stops any anxiety-related mental imagery happening as well. ... Anything that helps you control your attention is going to help.â
In a sense, our teamâs goal/ plan is to disrupt the purpose of this by creating confusing and frustrating colouring sheets for students to complete.
PLAN!Â

- Several pages of different colour page optionsÂ

Initially, our idea was to create a step by step guide to make a origami. The ironic purpose of this was to destress the audience, however, the origami piece would be too complex and difficult to make. We have not continued with this idea because after further research, we have found out that colouring books made to calm the audience are already existing. We are then able to manipulate this idea into making the audience even more stressed.Â
Delphine Chedru
Wonderful simple illustrative design by Delphine Chedru
RESEARCH:Â
Delphine Chedru is a graphic designer and comic books colourist. Her use of block colour is really appealing and engaging to her audience.Â
INSPIRATION:
I believe we can gain inspiration from this into our colouring book as the style is simple and aesthetic. Essentially, our colour book could tell a story too. We would like to engage the students by making our pdf interactive.
