americans mutuals, based on this source, rep. betty mccollum has introduced a bill to prohibit us taxpayer dollars from funding the abuse of palestinian children, land theft, and ethnic cleansing. this bill so far only has 18 sponsors. the jewish voice for peace has set up a program and texting service to contact your local government representatives to urge them to co-sponsor this bill. palestinians are asking for our allyship and support in their time of need and ask that you please reach out to your local representatives in order to further spread awareness on the palestinian abuse at the hands of israel and push them to co-sponsor this bill to severe the united states’ connection and funding of israel. here is the link to the bill.

I get so angry hearing and reading about what's happening in Palestine right now. I don't even know what to do and it all feels hopeless 😔

The situation around Sheikh Jarrah should make everyone angry. For those of you who might not know what’ going on here’s a brief breakdown:

Indigenous Palestinian residents of Sheikh Jarrah, for a very long time, have been fighting lengthy legal battles in Israeli courts against eviction orders which aim to replace these indigenous people with illegal Israeli settlers. 

On May 7th, the illegal Israeli settlers along with courts (an apparatus of Israel’s apartheid regime) have started a campaign to illegally take over the home’s of Palestinian families in Sheikh Jarrah. These families were given until today (May 10th, 2021) to “reach an agreement” with the occupiers. This obviously prompted protests. The IDF has also brutally responded to these protests. Now the world is watching and global protests have started happening.

Some important things to note:

-Sheikh Jarrah belongs to the Palestinian families. It is part of the occupied Palestinian territory, and therefore any Israeli settler presence in it amounts to a war crime under international law. 

-There has been a mountain of UN Security Council resolutions demanding that Israel withdraw from East Jerusalem which Israel continues to ignore.

-This is ethnic cleansing

I know you feel hopeless but here’s what we can do:

-Support BDS (Boycott, Divestments, Sanctions) movements (What”s BDS?) Boycott Israeli products from their colonial settlements

-Understand whats happening in Palestine and the crimes of apartheid/persecution being committed by Israel. (Check out this great report by HRW on the situation) After getting an understanding. SPREAD AWARENESS. Especially in the US. This is key to combatting Evangelical propaganda and Israeli lobbyists. Do this through social media.

-Contact your local reps and pressure them to stop giving Israel military funding or any form of financial support. Fight against zionist lobbyists such as AIPAC or Christians United for Israel.

-Donate if you can. Here’s a few links. If you can add more (reputable) donation links to this, I ask that you please do.

As of today (May 6th) Israeli settlers are violently displacing Palestinians of Sheikh Jarrah (in Eastern Jerusalem) and ripping them out of their own homes. Settlers are violently physically assaulting Palestinians and are backed by the military. This forced eviction is illegal under international law.

So just out of curiosity, how long does it take for you to draw one of your comics? Is it something you have to set aside a good amount of time for or can you crank one out in just a couple of hours total?

I'm trying to get a reference point on how much time people who draw comics spend on drawing comics, because if it's something I can manage the time to do I might try it out myself.

ooh good question!! for me, it honestly depends on how much creativity paneling requires, how many pages/panels it is, and what style I decide to use. For this blog, comics can take anywhere from (totally rough estimates here) 4-12 hours. anything over 6 hours I seriously recommend working not doing all in one go, but y’all know I procrastinate these sometimes khawklegj anyways.

like my january comic this year took almost no time at all (4 panels, no backgrounds, basically copy and paste)! but it took a lot of configuring even before I started lineart to get march’s comic finished (3 pages, some backgrounds, even with just flats I was trying out a new pen for lineart so it took just as long as if I had shaded akwhegk).

With that being said, it takes so long because I’m really particular with the comics I post here! I usually go for clean lineart, full color, and shading when I make stuff for this blog. I’ve made lots of comics for other things in just a few hours or even less just by being less particular, or by not coloring!

For this blog, I always know what kind of level of polish I want, even if I’m playing around with style, so I know it’s going to be a bit of a commitment. But it doesn’t have to be! Especially if you’re just starting, I wouldn’t hold yourself down to any strict rules. Let yourself explore! 

That’s like my biggest regret for this blog lol. I was new to comics and especially new to digital art so I had the chance to explore and I didn’t. I was so rigid with how I “had” to draw for so long that I ended up stuck with an art style I didn’t like for months that was really hard to shake. Creating is all about shaping and reshaping, exploration and all that! If you want to spend five minutes on something, spend five minutes on it! If you wanna tackle a multi-page work with flashy poses and whatever, go for it, but give yourself the time to make it what you want without rushing or overworking yourself! Just don’t feel like comics “have” to take forever. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t. What’s important is that you’re having fun and you pace yourself.
