Concept - driftwood horse. This started as a study, the challenge being to take different inspirations and mash them together in a fantasy image. As soon as a I saw the base image of the horse galloping in the surf, I thought it reminded me of driftwood and decided to run with it.
Concept of a sea serpent, a kind of nocturnal cold-water monster. It emerges at night to half-crawl, half-slither along rocks or ice, using its arms and claws to pull itself up when needed. It cannot see well at all, some wonder if it even has eyes. It uses its keen ability to sense warmth to find its primary prey: birds roosting or nesting along the coast. It captures them with its powerful jaws and sharp teeth, moving lightning fast when it strikes. If it can't find birds, it settles for shellfish or will seek out small schools of fish. It avoids sharks.
Painted in Procreate, 2020-21.
Creature concept: Bynx. This chimera is part cat, part horse, part bird -- inspired by a horse, ostrich and cat. I made sure to study how a kind of creature like this would move. You can often find it lounging in red-rock outcrops or napping in the shade of scrubby desert brush.
3D interior design concept - Sir Federick’s study, 18th-century-inspired fantasy world, the kingdom of Dorovia, “An Unorthodox Rule.” Made with Planner 5D.
Edmund Grimlock is a wartime orphan who suffered horrific wounds as a child, leaving him with a scar across his forehead and a broken nose that never healed properly -- it is upturned, earning him the nickname "pig" as a boy. He is a character in my story, "An Unorthodox Rule."
George Washington and Lafayette at Valley Forge, 2021, painted in Procreate.
Food designs for scenes in “An Unorthodox Rule,” drawn and colored in Procreate.
Top row, from left: Sweets for a royal party; a diplomat’s dinner. Second row, from left: Foraged snacks; royal breakfast; harvest festival treats. Bottom row, from left: Journeyman’s victuals; lunch at the manor kitchen.

A note about his nose: It was broken when he was a young child (at the same time he received a gash across his forehead that left that furrow of a scar) and healed upturned. He has had to bear the insult of being called “pig” ever since.
Selected horse studies (1 to 3 hours), November 2020 - February 2021, Procreate.
I belong to an art group led by QuelFabulous and every Monday we get together to do about an hour-long horse study. Sometimes, I continue to work on the pieces after the fact.
