So, who do Robin and Kurrant allude to from Wizard of Oz?
"That's the neat part, they don't."
Yeah, while the original Wizard of Oz books have a whole host of character that can be pulled from, neither Robin, Kurrant, or really anyone from the ORGK story has allusion to Wizard of Oz character (as of right now, that might change)
When I first made the character I hadn't done as much research into the book as I've done now (which is still admittedly not a lot). Additionally with a whole wide world of fairytales to chose from, I didn't like the idea of EVERYONE in the inner circle being connected to the Wizard of Oz
This all begs the question of who ARE Robin and Kurrant
Robin Ironwood; perhaps unsurprisingly, is based off Robin Hood, like Robyn Hill is in canon. (My Robin was made either during or just after Volume 6 before we knew that Hill was a thing yet) I based her color scheme or a robin bird with gray and orange as opposed to the typical Hood green because I thought that fit better with the color name rule, I though it was more interesting, and it served as both a similarity and contrast to Atlas' icy white and blue color scheme. Also, My Robin does also "steal from the rich" so to speak, but rather then also money, she's more espionage and gathering information to expose corruption and abuse of power to ensure that those responsible will not be able to continue in their wicked way.
Moving onto Kurrant. Similarly certain certain member of JNPR who allude to mythological people who may have existed at some point, Kurrant is based of the fictionalization version of Blackbeard the pirate. His name alluding to Black Currents which appear in pictures to be either actually black, or very dark red or blue which is why his design features a lot of red and blue as well as black. Now I will admit I don't remember how much research I did into his character choice at first, however the wikipedia on Blackbeard does mention that "[Blackbeard] was a shrewd and calculating leader who spurned the use of violence, relying instead on his fearsome image to elicit the response that he desired from those whom he robbed.", which does connect in a round about way with my image of Kurrant not liking to fight if he doesn't have to in order to ensure a good outcome.
