All 3 Bungee Bear jumps (PLUS around 3 seconds of bonus footage!)
Bungee Bear's lowest points (.6m, .5m, and .55m) and his first bounces ...he's still feeling that wall burn 😬
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FUTURE STUDENTS
1. Make sure your group understands the concepts surrounding springs before beginning the challenge 2. Use your time wisely! You want the most amount of time to test & perfect your bungee cord before the jump. 3. When stuck, ask for help from other students as well as Mr. Cochran.
WHAT WE COULD'VE DONE DIFFERENTLY
1. manage our classtime better and get labs done on time so we had more time to test out our bungee cord 2. change drop point so Bungee Bear did not hit the wall 3. build the spring first, THEN test it and find its length and spring constant instead of finding a theoretical spring and then building it (having to change our spring multiple time caused frustration)
WE LEARNED & DEMONSTRATED PHYSICS
Our group was able to: demonstrate that the relationship between the applied force and the displacement of a spring is directly proportional (proving the formula F = kx). calculate the spring force of a rubber band which came out to approx. 45.13 N/m by measuring the force, stretched position, and displacement of the bands. gather data from different rubber band arrangements and find the realtionships between the number of bands, the spring constant, and the average spring constant of each arrangement. for a series: 1/keq = 1/k1 + 1/k2 for parallel: keq = k1 + k2
GROUP SUCCESSES
Bungee Bear... 1. did not hit the floor 2. bounced twice on each drop 3. had a THRILLING experience! (Bungee's lowest point was never higher than .6 meters from the ground!!)
OUCH! One of our failures was that Bungee Bear's face made contact with the wall with a lot of force.
GROUP FAILURES
1.Bungee Bear faceplanted into the wall! 2. bungee cord length and spring constant did not meet the exact length & constant we designed
