Trip Croatia

Greetings, my name is Bram Henderickx and i'm 19 years old. I live in Belgium (Geel) and this Februari i'm going to do a internship at the University of Zadar.

Back with my family

At last I’m home, safely returned to my great family. I had a blast taking the Erasmus project and going to Croatia for a internship in the University of Zadar. I promis if you ever get the chance to take part in a Erasmus project just do it. Its totally worth it, I already miss everyone in Croatia at the University of Zadar but i’m also happy i’m home in my own trusty home, having my own trusty bed, no more nights with back pain. The day we left we went over to the University of Zadar and got our certificate. Saying our goodbye’s to Nevan and Thomislav.

Final days!

Its almost here! The internship is coming to a end, I had to show my game on wednesday. It wasn’t finished but I was very happy about it and I think Neven and Thomislav liked it too. I am probably still going to work on it, trying to finish it so other people could play it if they want to. Making the game gave me more self-esteem. I always thought I couldn’t make one but here I am with a demo of something I made. I am really going to miss the employees, the weather, the beautifull view of the sea everyday. It’s going to take some time to adapt myself again to the weather in Belgium but I also miss my family and friends. If I finish my game I will post it on tumblr so anyone who reads this in the future could play it and give me feedback about what I should change or learn to do better. In the end I really enjoyed this 3 week internship and I got alot of experience out of it, not only in game development but also in hardware and how the network works. That’s going to make everything alot easier in the future, knowing how to fix certain problems with a switch or managing where the cable’s go. Thanks for reading this! Cya untill the next blog.

Second week internship!

Monday we got a new task from Tomislav, we had to update some (apple) pc’s and those pc’s are so weird. Its just a screen with a mouse and keyboard, the pc is build in the screen. The mouse and keyboard were small, and the best part is that you have to charge the mouse and the port to charge it is on the bottom so you can’t use it when its charging. When we got home from work we went on a trip and we saw how beautifull Zadar really is.

Tuesday we got to work on our game, figuring everything out. Trying to setup something small, a moveable character in a small parcour level. Its a mental game working on it, imagine being stuck for 2 hours on the same problem and its a smallest thing.

We also went to something really cool. Its a high building in Zadar and inside you can experience a simulation of driving a boat. Big screens, all the button and handle’s, you can simulate different place’s and weather. We were allowed to take it for a “ride” trying to save the ship when a other ship was coming at us. Yeah we crashed but it was so much fun getting the chance and trying something like that.

We ate alot of rice and macaroni home, because its easy to make and everyone has enough. Wednesday we mixed the leftovers of the pasta and rice, made some sausages with it and ofcourse some egg with it. 

On friday we got something to eat because we were tired of doing the dishes, getting some delicious pizza in the famous building (Crazy pizza). Ofcourse I needed to take the pizza called crazy pizza and it was so good and the best part is that it didn’t cost us more then if we would have made food. But don’t forget its unhealthy. First work week

The first work week was very exhausting, we had to find a program or software for a conference with a total of 50 people. It was very stressy because we had a deadline and nothing was good enough, it always missed something important or it had to many bugs. We finally found it, the perfect software for making a conference meeting. We tested it in the main hall with a camera and everything worked excellent. Now we are tasked to make a game like flappy bird or a racing game to test our skills. We are starting on it tomorrow and im pretty sure its going to be fun and inspiring. Its going to be difficult and a challenge but I’m 100% sure its going to be a good game and that we will finish it before deadline. We also went to the burgerfest on Saturday and I can assure you it was delicious! If you ever come to Zadar I recommend going to that restaurant. That's it for today, cya in the next blog everyone!

First work days

We took a calm morning walk to the University Of Zadar at the beginning of the day. Then we went to meet Neven Pintaric, he is the head of the IT department. 

Our first task was to find more about microsoft teams and how the app’s work, it just took some searching time but was easy to explain.

At the end of the day we went to a game of basketball, I always wanted to go to a big sportcenter and I always wanted to see a popular match of basketbal. So I enjoyed so much watching the whole thing, I was tired from working but at the end of the day it was so much fun.

In the evening we made some delicious spaghetti, we had some errors like burning the cooking pot or spilling everywhere. But we all ate our belly’s full again and we couldn’t complain, we are all still learning. This is my blog for today , see everyone who reads this tomorrow!

We are alive

We left Belgium two days ago, we had a perfect flight with no troubles. Taking the three planes got me a little stressed out but we’re all fine and now in the lovely city Zadar. The weather is enjoyable, it’s not that warm but in comparison to Belgium it’s warm enough to be enjoyed.

The first day we explored Zadar a little to know where everything was, like the shops and restaurants. At the end of day we all went out for dinner, I took a delicious pizza and I couldn’t get enough of it.

The next day we went to see the awesome waterfalls in a nature friendly park.

My eyes couldn’t believe how beautifull it was.

At the end of the day we made some homecooked wraps , it was a struggle at first but at the end we all ate our belly’s full.

One week left

I’m still so hyped about everything , having the chance to meet new people from a whole different place in person! Hopefully everything goes smooth. I really hope we aren’t going to have any problems with the plane’s because plane’s are pretty scary. We have to take 3 plane’s to arrive in Croatia so thats going to be a hell but its all going to be worth it. This wouldn’t be possible without my school so I just want to thank them to organise everything and give us this chance to improve ourselfs for the future.

Getting closer and closer

Only 2 weeks left until we leave Belgium behind and go on our awesome experience in Croatia, i’m starting to stress a little but i’m also getting so hyped to meet the lovely people at the University Of Zadar. I will also profit so much from living alone for 3 weeks, making my own food, cleaning up the place and much much more. Those experiences will benefit me alot in the future! Making me more confident and more self-assured.

First post to rule them all

Information: Greetings, my name is Bram Henderickx and i'm 19 years old. I live in Belgium (Geel) and this Februari i'm going to do a intership at the University of Zadar. I’m looking forward to go to Croatia and to take part into the internship. Meeting everyone there and to get to know them better while working with them as a team.

Facts: The company that I have to go to is the University of Zadar. There are 515 employees at the university and 5800 students . The university in its current modern form was founded in 2002, but can trace its lineage to 1396, making it the oldest tertiary institution in Croatia and one of the oldest in Europe. Zadar is also known for its fish market.

Lesure: I also have some ideas to do if I arrive in Zadar, like going to the stadium stanovi, sea organ, light show and to watch the old buildings(churches,cathedral) all around Zadar. I also love Zadar’s most common sport and thats basketball, I would love to watch a game if its possible but thats unsure. Finally I want to visit some restaurants to get the full taste of Zadar.
