Okay, back from midterms, so have another El Noli au!!
So the novella of Jekyll and Hyde was published during 1886, exactly one year before the publishing of Noli Me Tangere. The novel is set around the early 1880’s, originally it had no specific years.
Which means that there might have been a possibility that Crisostomo Ibarra could have met/worked with/studied under Dr. Henry Jekyll, a famous British scientist, while he was in Europe.
Which means that there might have been a chance where he heard about Jekyll’s study of the human soul and the balance of good and evil. There might also have been a chance where he even uncovers the formulas for HJ7.
So theoretically, Crisostomo could have the HJ7 formula and/or knowledge of the studies of the human soul.
SO IN THIS AU HE REPLICATES/TRIES TO EDIT THE FORMULA AND HE ENDS UP WITH HIS OWN HYDE. AKA SIMOUN!!!
SO IMAGINE THE EVENTS OF NOLI AND EL FILI WITH SIMOUN AS CRISOSTOMOS HYDE.
(Also for clarification, in this specific au, Crisostomo can speak with Simoun as if Simoun was a separate person, blame it on the edits he made)
so u need to tell me they had the guts to make simoun in this scene nearly shirtless despite being no explicit mention of him being so but they couldn't do that for elias when him and ibarra were fleeing in chapter 61
😭😭😭 yeah I really haven't been engaging that much with the el noli community compared to last year, i could say it is due to me being preoccupied with senior high school but i do also think that my curiosity and mental engagement with the books themselves has kind of remained stagnant because 1. im on artblock and 2. im more active on tiktok than tumblr nowadays and tbh my fyp has kinda driven my interest away from el noli and onto other topics
im not planning on quote on quote "leaving the fandom/community" because in general im not really the type of person to fully abandon engaging with a piece of media unless it's super harmful or problematic to do so it's more of just me remaining dormant on this community until i get like a spike in motivation to post smth related to el noli

Did a little skim over Noli me and just wanted to point out some stuff about Elias' character.
In chap 34 elias says this:
He claims he has lost his faith in people and believes so much in god. This is a reason he uses to justify murdering the derrick operator because, apparently god has judged him and has chosen executed him through Elias' own hand.
Then in chap 62, when Ibarra is declaring his anger and his plan to eradicate the spaniards from the country, Elias then says this:
I just thought it's kinda hypocritical and sad that he deems the murder of the derrick operator justifiable, but doesn't think the same for spaniards.
Another part of what makes it so hypocritical is that the derrick worker's father used to work for Ibarra's grandfather, who I'm pretty sure was a cruel man and displayed violent tendencies. So it kinda makes sense why the man would plot the murder of Ibarra.
Again, very disappointing that Elias didn't seem to show much empathy for a fellow indio, but would show some mercy to the oppressors. (He did humiliate the alferez and padre damaso, but that's it; he didn't kill them, something which would've probably benefited society more than one filipino worker's death.)
Elisimoun fanfic idea (CW: unhealthy relationship dynamics)
They both develop an unhealthy and toxic attachment with their own idealized version of the other to the point where whenever either one deviates from the other's glamorized rendition of them they start freaking out and they both get into extremely explosive arguments about it
but then eventually they are painfully forced to come to the conclusion that they are really harmful for each other so they agree to hold each other at gunpoint with one loaded bullet and periodically fire the gun until one or both of them dies (twist: one of them may or may not have secretly left their gun barrel empty without the other knowing, or both of them might have it empty who knows)

My ethics teacher was also supportive of age gap relationships, kasi even back then there were age gaps so why is it bad now?
Idk just thought I'd share. The Philippines has a weird problem with grooming man :/ its just so sus. Like wala akong pake sa age gaps usually basta mga older folks na, pero dapat mga old folks na like maaaaybe 30s to 40s ok na yan. Mga 20s parang baby pa yan sa tingin ko 🤷♀️
To make things worse, this is not the first time I had a classmate who is in a weird age gap relationship. I had one who was 18 years old and dating somrone probably 12 or 13 since she was only in grade 7 😬 another one was an 18 year old dating someone 25. A little bit sus if u ask me but i dunno 🤷♀️
Last one is not mine but from a friend. Babae naman yung older kaysa sa lalake, at siya ay 18 (I'm assuming since senior high kami at the time) and once again, she was dating a grade 7 student. The thing that's so stupid is that this 18 year old went on FACEBOOK OKAY to rant about her relationship, saying that it's fine kasi age doesn't matter daw and bla bla bla. Marami kasing sumasabi na bawal daw kaya siya nag-rant sa FB 🤦♀️
It's crazy man. The fact na majority dito din ay mga lalake. Kung lalake older sa babae okay lang, pero kung balikad then suddenly hindi na, kahit 1 year lang yung gap so imagine a bigger one. Smh. (Bakit inaksiyonan na pag babae kasi yung mas matanda?? 😭 DI KO GETS GRABE kahit yung classmate ko nung grade 8 or 9 ako, babae siya tapos kelangan pa talaga niya i-clraify na yung boyfriend niyang grade 7 ay mas matanda kaysa sa kaniya na grade 8 😩)
Pero most importantly kahit sino pa man ang older, basta yung age hindi magkatugma sa stage ng buhay o maturity hindi yan dapat pwede guys 😭

since we can assume ibarra touches grass a lot during the 7 years of his travels in europe, it's reasonable for him to be slightly tan whilst still retaining his mestizo skintone which is a bit white, as for simoun, bro spent his time in havana in america so obviously he would've been very tan at that point (hence why he was named cardinal moreno), but idk why some adaptations like afc refuse to give him melanin 😭🙏
I'd rather wish that people's responses to the tragedy were more sane and ethical.
It has turned into a media circus now. People are too obsessed with rooting out the good vs. evil as if they're the legislators, the judges and the executioners. Everyone's buying into the moral panic and it's giving fodder to politicians to further their agendas. Rights of the victims and the perpetrators are being violated left and right. Journalists are using it to springboard their own fascist authoritarian views on parenting and disciplining. And it's being used by sht politicians to push forward draconian laws that only lead towards state surveillance and data privacy erosion.
It's a proof our society's failure in raising children, in treating them as actual people. We have failed our youth by having shtty negligent cops and parents that dont know how to frkin support their children. We have failed our youth feasting on their failings instead of reviewing the systemic injustice that produced this shtshow.
We are regressing as a nation and it is fucked up.
