Gorgeous snippets from a forgotten world
If you aren’t already a Keyholder, now might be a nice time to enrol. In addition to adults-only lates at Against Captain’s Orders, they’ve just announced preorders for a Drowned Man photo hardcover due out in June boasting 130 unreleased photos of the studios and their inhabitants.Â
A work created by Paul Zivkovich (performer from “Sleep No More” and “The Drowned Man”).
I really like the aesthetic of this, it feels dark and expressive, and is beautifully made. It evokes a restless quality, like when you are trying to sleep and can’t.
The images are striking, and how the music, movement, and editing become faster and more disjointed, building tension, and a feeling of being trapped.
Please watch and share.
Thank you for sharing this drinkthehalo! A beautiful piece by one of TDM’s leading men.Â
While I’m checking back with you all, there’s a chance to give a shout out to some things you should know. Gecko, a company that includes former TDM cast Anna Finkel and Francois Testory and whose piece Missing is the best thing I’ve seen this year, is accepting donations to rebuild their set which was destroyed on Kickstarter. Battersea Arts Centre, which once held Masque of the Red Death and has since hosted countless innovative theatre, is also accepting donations here. Former cowboy Luke Murphy also has a project in the works which you can donate to here.Â
Hope you’re all well out there in the dark!
I'm not sure when, but the Temple Studios page updated at some point noting the final wrap.
"...And so it seems that we have met before And laughed before, and loved before..." It wasn't the last night but it was the last weekend and it was so powerful. I wondered why I hadn't revisited this scene in months...
"I'm going to have to double the dose..."
"In a lonely place, on a silent night..."
For those of you missing the stars, here's what seems like a pretty comprehensive and updated list of shows you can catch some of them in, a fair few of which are still ongoing/upcoming. It also includes former TDM cast goings-on outside of the UK as well. It'll be exciting to see what this talented bunch can do beyond Temple!
A lot of people shared some behind the scenes snippets of their lovely show notes, sketches, handwritten recaps and other moments where Temple Studios trailed into our daily lives... I don't have a sketchbook for these kinds of things, but The Drowned Man definitely burst out of the margins of my work notebook from when I started here around the same time as my first show. Here are some snapshots of my sketches of varying detail from my notebook, coffee stains and all... Some became proper illustrations, some didn't, and some I'm still working on. I should mention that these are only a fraction of the TDM-related drawings I found, but when you work a job like mine you end up drawing a lot!

Hello :-) I've seen some short snippets of video of the show on other sites and wondered whether you had any? Not for any commercial-rubbish sort of use, just to feed addiction and ease mourning! Thanks :-)
Well the official Temple Studios Youtube page has some promotional videos clips that are pretty neat for starters. Their official Instagram page also had some short videos.Â
There was a short piece from the BBC back before the show even opened i think which shows Claude and Dolores: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-23329899Also before the show even started they had this promotional video which doesn’t show the set at all but has sounds you’d probably recognise…
If you want to see something incredibly cheesy but which actually captures some of the dances, there was a segment on the BBC One show in the autumn of last year… Maybe watch that one on mute. Also potentially to watch on mute, this band made a music video at Temple Studios….This video interview with Felix took place around the set as well. Then more recently there was a beautifully shot film based on Lila and posted on Dazed. I never took photos or videos myself though, but if you look around on Tumblr or Instagram, you can find some sneaky videos people have been sharing. Did I miss anything? We’re all crossing our fingers we’ll see more media from there someday!
These are the last photos of Temple Studios that I had found and saved. I'm sure there are more photos and videos out there, hopefully everything will continue to be shared as the memory fades and the temple retreats. Soon we'll have to rely on just those memories, but I'm thankful there continues to be an outpouring of written, drawn, and photographed accounts of The Drowned Man.
So I've been posting my art of the show that I hadn't previously posted bit by bit... And I stumbled upon this one in that folder, which brought a smile to my face. It's kind of a fanart, but with a purpose and for a specific show. Last year, on Halloween, a couple of friends and I decided to dress up as Rule 63-ed characters, one of whom was Drugstore Girl Boy. He had an idea to have his own cleaning towel but then thought it'd be good to make one for the show and asked me to make one saying "Trust the Grocer," which he could then show to the Drugstore Girl of the day. I was totally on board - on my first show, after following Paul's William for the first loop, I stayed with The Grocer and The Drugstore Girl for the entire rest of the show (having some little interactions that changed a lot since those early days), so they remain characters dear to me. I drew those first two I was with - Fionn Cox-Davies as Grocer and Margaritta Zafrilla Olayo as DG - but on the day it was actually Jesse Kovarsky and Sophie Bortolussi. I made a simplified vector drawing (so that the printing wouldn't have detail to lose) of a favourite little scene they share, the moment with the napkin holder and the lipstick. Looking back on this, I'm glad that in the end the DG could trust the Grocer. Our Drugstore Boy surprised me (and Jesse and Sophie as well) that night with a printed tea towel of my own and it remains one of my favourite souvenirs from the show and a great memory of a special show.
