Despite working all throughout the day, and going to school, Renira’s double life wasn’t exactly the hardest to keep up. Crime rates dropped by 70% ever since he started going on patrol at night and helping people in castelia. Now, whenever he went on patrol, he found himself lazing sometimes, sitting on the edge of buildings with Morgana, watching cars pass below.

Tonight, he decided he’d climb some rooves, parkour up a very tall building, a very tall building which just so happened to be a department store. He was about ¾ths of the way up to the top, when he looked through the glass, and made eye contact with a girl who was buying something.

He stared at her, and blinked, and then smiled awkwardly. What do you do in a situation where you’re halfway up the side of a building 20ft off of the ground and someone spots you?

Since she attended school at night, once classes were over she was able to do some shopping at the nearby department store. From floor to floor, she preferred to take the stairs. Crowded elevators weren’t her style for sure.  

Browsing through a few of the floors, she checked out accessories and the pretty TM’s she couldn’t afford. Checking her phone she noticed it was already pretty late. Deciding to pick up some last minute potions, as she checked the shelves for hyper potions. When she lifted her face from the rack, across the way she saw a man on the outside of the building.

Wait the outside? She’s on the 4th floor at least. Why was he smiling anyway, what a weirdo.

Putting the potions back onto the shelf she ran up the stairs quickly to the roof. Maybe she could help him from there. Sprinting towards the railing of the platform she looked over the edge to see him down below. 

“HEY! ARE YOU CRAZY? YOU’LL FALL IF YOU’RE NOT CAREFUL!”

Gold wipes away his grin at the her last little pout, scrunching his face like somebody would at the mention of a recent ex. Save for the occasional daydream, nothing about him and heroics was complicated anymore. Those days are over, and he accepts being lulled away from glory.

Her words seemed to make him a bit unhappy. While she was off attending school and taking care of the day care, he helped strangers on the street for no reward or recognition. He really did have a heart of gold. Since he was holding the log, her hands were free. The urge to pinch his cheeks was very real in that moment. 

“Well, maybe i’ll call my hero more often then.” she put her hands on her cheeks. The heat from her face made her cold hands hurt. 

Gold changed the subject back towards their night pretty quickly. Kotone couldn’t help but crack a smile as he looked over towards the fire. 

“Yeah that’s the last log, I don’t have a fire type so that would be pretty helpful actu--”  Wait did he just call her princess?

“Hey you cant just go around calling girls princess, you’ll give them the wrong idea.” Walking away from him towards the fire pit, her hand on her heart to hopefully calm the frantic beating. Poor naive and pure Kotone cant take a joke like that, she’ll probably have a heart attack.

moon hadn’t planned on saying anything, was perfectly content with keeping her mouth shut and focusing on reading her book, mimikyu playing in the sand a few feet away from where she was lounging on the shore. she really hadn’t planned on saying anything– but as she watched a petite brunette in a red swimsuit wipe out on her surfboard for the what must have been the eighteenth time, moon decided enough was enough. the girl in question was still sputtering and hacking up salt water when moon approached, her book temporarily discarded in favor of more pressing matters. she uses her sunglasses to push her bangs out of her face as she wades into the shallow water, before offering the girl a hand to her feet. 

“y’know, i’ve been watching for a couple of minutes,” (and here moon wonders if this is going to come off as a little weird) “i’m a pretty experienced surfer and i thought i could offer some tips.” she offers a crooked grin, before realizing that there’s a chance that the girl may take offense – “if you want, of course.” she adds hastily.

taking a break from her current adventure, visiting the paniola ranch to extend their affiliation with the different regions pokemon day cares. kotone hit the beach, a few of the locals recommended she try her hand at surfing. if she could balance on the fence back home she should be able to get this down right?

no way, that was a terrible assumption. 

time after time, she’d get onto the board and wipe out after a few seconds. she was constantly finding herself eating sand. azumarill played happily in the water despite his trainers struggle. 

this time, a stranger came to help her to her feet. it seemed she was experienced in the sport, kotone might have been surprised if they weren’t standing on the beach already. 

“maybe i’m just, like no good or something?” turning her attention back to the female she smiled, “i don’t mind, i really don’t want to give up just yet you know?”  you don’t get to enjoy trips like these very often so she had to make the best of it before heading back home.

And like that, things fall into place. Save for the chill that he wouldn’t admit being a bit under dressed for, Gold’s body almost immediately relaxes to the ‘welcoming’ (uh, it’ll have to do) and ushering voice of his childhood neighbor. He pockets his PokeGear and shuffles to her petite silhouette through the dark, snickering with each step at the stance she’s held cradling that firewood.

“You always just do whatever you want.” 

Letting out a relaxed sigh, she watched as he makes his way safely though the tall grass. Who knows what kinds of bugs were crawling around at the base of the fence. Gold was always like this, since they were kids. Kotone could always find herself following behind him till the end. 

He easily removed the log from her grasp, replacing it with a bundle of flowers. Now she knew full well he didn’t buy them. It warmed her heart despite the chill outside. Cant blame a red face on a fire that doesn’t exist yet. Years of being close to his side, she learned more about him with time. His childish side, his charms, and his rebellious streaks.

“As much as i’d love for you to be my hero, aren’t you just as busy being the hero of Johto?”  

Kinda hard to make time to see each other when you live in two different worlds.

He nearly thanked a god he didn’t believe in when his PokeGear chirped in his pocket that afternoon. Given the dreadful wavelessness around him, any unexpected notification could seize him with unreasonable thrill, but this time it’s a message he gladly gives into.

Gold sends @teplius an affirmative I’ll be there, blowing a dumb kiss at the dim screen before plucking at flowerbeds on his way down the street.

Class had been cancelled today, with nothing to do in the evening she found herself looking through a short list of contacts. It had been far too long since she had seen him, and now she was excited just re-reading a simple message over a few times. 

Kotone made good use of her evening before he arrived, finding time to get together a load of snacks and drinks for them to share. There was a chill in the air, nothing a warm jacket couldn’t stop. Behind the day care, nearby a shed there was a fire pit that was pretty unused. 

Most of the Pokemon staying with them this evening were already asleep, aside from a few nocturnal ones. As she carried things between the backdoor towards the fire pit, she heard a rustling in the grass. 

Soon enough something was calling her name, if she wasn’t well equipped with a log of firewood she would have been more scared. The dark figure emerged from its hiding spot, at first glance she wouldn’t have noticed it was him.

“Hey, why are you sneaking into my yard? You could’ve texted me you know.”
