"If you have the ability to love, love yourself first"
-Charles Bukowski
While I understand where this sentiment came from, I’m tired of this quote being normalized. If you’re not doing well in certain aspects, you shouldn’t have to feel the need to fake it. No one should be perceived as if they are any less of a person for not feeling 100% all day / every day. Rather than focusing on the societal pressure to fake how you’re feeling, we should all be focusing on what we can do to actually feel okay. Whether that means utilizing your support system in a sense to pinpoint exactly why you’re feeling the way you are, or even finding healthy coping skills to get back to feeling your best; we should NOT have to feel the need to “fake it”.
Life can be rough, but that doesn’t mean that it always will be. Certain days may feel harder than others to make it through, but you WILL make it through. As I wrote in a previous post, “Keep hoping that the clouds will dissipate and the sun will shine” because I promise you that one day the sun will shine for you. One day you will see that your hope and your fight for a brighter future has brought you to that brighter future.
While some days you may not feel like you’re doing okay, that is a normal feeling to have. Every second of life will not always be sunshine and rainbows, but we need to allow ourselves to see the normalcy in that. We need to allow ourselves the courage to discuss how we’re feeling and to see that our bad days do not always equate to a bad future.

Breathe in as the rain runs down your face Breathe out as the negative thoughts are washed away Breathe in a life of new-found happiness Breathe out the years upon years of despair Breathe in the feelings of self-forgiveness Breathe out the feelings of self-hatred Breathe in the realization that things will be okay Breathe out as you allow your breaths to guide you through -Tee
