He plucks the card out of Claryās hand to hold it up to her, and immediately she can tell somethingās different about that card. Sheās not sure what, exactlyāitās eerily angular and straight-lined, but thatās just how Jo paints sometimes. No, whatever it is is more subtle, but before she can figure it out Jace shifts and steps in front of her, card held between them. Madame Dorothea moved closer while Clary wasnāt looking, and even at a glance itās easy to see something shifted in her. The haze has left her eyes, replaced by a gaunt sort of hunger, almost feverish in her expression as she looms over Jace and hisses:
āWhatās it do?ā Her breath smells like rotting eggs, and Clary lets herself be maneuvered behind Jace, away from the couch. āIts gets the Cuuuuupsāā
Madame Dorotheaās last hiss ends on the sound of cracking bones as her jaw dislocates, sharp claws piercing the skin of her cheeks and sliding down her throat to tear her openāand thatās when Clary screams.
We are now at 10k for this draft with possibly another five ish to get to the cliffhanger end of that update, so I'm estimating the final story to be anywhere between 20 and 25k long x) In celebration, have a snippet:
āAlright,ā [Clary] says anyway, trying her best to sound decisive. āYou two will be in the hallway, right?ā
āThe whole time,ā Izzy promises. āAnything goes wrong, you just call and weāll be there.ā
With one last look at the drawn curtains of Madame Dorotheaās parlor, Clary breathes in deep and makes her way up the steps. The front door is locked when Clary tries it, which is odd since theyāre inside Madame Dorotheaās usual visiting hours, but then if she truly is a witch and knows what really happened to Jo, it would stand to reason that sheād want to lay low for a while. Clary certainly would. It barely takes Izzy a few seconds to get the door open without even using her stele, and then theyāre faced with the pungent darkness of Madame Dorotheaās waiting room.
āEw,ā Clary says, bringing a hand up to her nose. āWhatās that smell?ā
āPot pourri pourri,ā Jace says, chuckling to himself as he points at a bowl filled with mouldering flower petals and fragrant leaves. āWeird choice.ā
āThe lightās not working,ā Alec points out over the empty click of the switch.
āThatās so weird,ā Clary says, still plugging her nose. The smell of flowers gone bad is so strong she can almost taste it. āSheās usually really on top of repairs and all that stuff."

Also, I wrote stuff again today! I'm meant to be typing up the first (handwritten) draft of this fic. This is not in the first draft, and also takes us further away from what the fic was originally supposed to be about, but I like it! I can put the other stuff in the next fic :P

āFamous?ā Clary says, blushing when Jace says it at the exact same time as her and pulls his tongue out at her.
āOh, right, I didnāt tell you!ā Izzy says, prompting Alec to groan and turn the hose on her. āHey! the people have a right to know! Stop!ā
āNo,ā Alec says, ājustāhey!ā
The spray catche Clary in the face when Jace tackles Alec down on the soapy rug and begins heaping dark gray suds on Alecās hair. Izzy, half laughing, turns back to Clary:
āThat call earlier, it was from a journalist!ā
āItās nothingāstop!ā Alec protests, though Claryās not sure if the second part is meant for Izzy or for Jace.
To be fair, thereās so much dirt in the water Clary can smell itāshe wouldnāt want that in her hair either.
āOh donāt be such a chicken,ā Izzy retorts, rolling her eyes. āYouāre not gonna die because you have to give one interview!ā
āItās the beginning of the end!ā Jace says with a dramatically deep voice, one arm and his legs firmly secured around Alecās back while the other grabs more soap to smear on Alecās face. āFirst an interview, and then the photographers will be stalking him in the bushes!ā
As I mentioned before I want to try and use this blog more, and more importantly I want it to focus more on talking about my writing (my process, people's comments, etc). In order to do that, I have:
deleted any post that wasn't originally created by me
deleted some posts that were no longer aligned with how I think
deleted posts made on my main blog then reblogged here (I really want to keep the two separate from now on)
deleted the finished fics I'd posted here (with two exceptions until I make sure they're actually saved in my folders, since I have yet to crosspost them to AO3)
Next step is retagging everything by hand, since my former tagging system wasn't consistent enough for mass editor, and properly organize the sidebar
I'm trying to start using this blog again ! In an effort to do just that, here's a snippet from the next Immortal Instruments fic! It was originally going to be titled "Dorothea" because I thought we'd get to that part, but I feel like it might be better thematically if we focus only on... well, what you're about to read, I guess x)
āYou know [the settee is] innocent right?ā Jace asks, and only narrowly dodges the cushion Clary throws at his head. āNice aim,ā he says with a small smile. When Clary only glares, he raises his hands again, grimacing. āSorry. Look Iāitās not how you think. Back home.ā
āWell I donāt know that,ā Clary tells him with the most pronounced āduhā tone she can manage, ābecause the one person who could have taught me decided to keep me away from it instead!ā
āOkay, well Iām here and Iām trying to tell you now,ā Jace snaps, tension creeping into every line of his body, āso can you please sit down and listen?ā
Clary sinks into the settee like a puppet cut off its strings. She looks around for a pillow, and only finds the one she threw at Jaceās head lying a couple meters away from them, so she toes her shoes off her feet and hugs her knees to her chest for meager comfort. Jace, when he mimics her posture, doesnāt bother taking his boots off.
āWhen I was little,ā he says in a faraway tone Clary struggles to hear through his knees, āmy name was Jace Wayland. I lived with my father, Mike, in the Fourth Enclave, and I wasāI was the luckiest boy in the world.ā
Now is not the time to ask what an Enclave is, or why itās relevant that Jace lived in the Fourth. Clary knows this, and stomps down on the curiosity that rises in her, choosing instead to lean into Jaceās shoulder, and stay calm when he takes a deep, shuddering breath.Ā
āFather used to give me everything I wanted. Books, weapons, petsānothing was too much. He made sure I had the best training a Shadowhunter could want. He used to say once I entered the Academy, I was going to be the best student theyād ever seen. I was so proud!ā He pauses, makes himself smaller on the settee. āBut. I didnāt really haveā¦ friends. Training takes a lot of time, and I wanted to be good and focus on my training.ā
How old were you? Clary wonders. If Izzy was only five when Jace and Alec became parabati, then Jace couldnāt have been older than six, maybe pushing seven when his training was taking place. How young did their father start telling him he had to be a good little soldier? What kind of man does that to a child, let alone his own son? But Jace, when she looks at him, is miles away. Thereās a shine to his eyes Clary has never seen, not even when she showed him pictures of Jo for the first timeāshe keeps her questions to herself.
āOne day when I was six or so, a woman came to our home. Father was out, so I tried to wait until she left, like I was supposed toābut she had a key. She asked me who I was, who lived with me, what my fatherās name wasā¦ and when I told her he was Mike Wayland, she became upset. Really upset. I didnāt understand why, so I asked Father about it when he came back that evening.ā Jace sighs, and Clary feels his shoulder shift as he moves to wipe his cheek. āI donāt remember if he answered my question, but I remember he told me Iād done a good job telling him about it, and as a reward, we could go camping.ā

āYeah, thereās a project from the Beijing and Moscow Institute to digitalise and mutualize our information so theyāre accessible to every other Institute at once, and Iām part of the team that sorts through what gets compiled and makes it searchableā¦ Basically I do a lot of metadata organization, tagging books, all that stuff. Itās a bit grueling, but itās already helped solve some tough cases. Part of the reason Mama retired from helming our Institute this year is so she can help with the project full timeāthatās why she and Baba are in Istanbul with our brother right now. Mamaās attending committee meetings to decide how theyāre going to handle the databaseāI lost you.ā
Thereās not really any room to deny it, so Clary doesnāt even try. Sheās never really gotten into computers beyond what she needed to host her art, and so far her blog has been more than enough for it. The whole notion of data archiving is nothing she usually thinks aboutā¦ Izzy sounds passionate about it though, so Clary decides sheāll try and ask more questions about it next time they broach the topic. Right now, she wants to get back to the original topic:
āSo how do you become parabatai with someone? Or parabati, I guess.ā
āOh, thereās a special rune for that,ā Izzy says, her shrug immediately giving way to a look of fond exasperation. āJace will happily show you his if you ask. Heās very proud of it. I remember when he got better after he got itāā
The whisp of affection that had started to grow in Claryās chest over the concept of parabati freezes.
āWhat do you mean, he got better? Does it hurt to get?ā
āYeah? I mean, I assumed soāI was only five when they did it so I donāt have all the details, but I remember they were both in the infirmary for a while, afterā¦ But I donāt know, maybe it was just Alec who didnāt take it too well.ā
Right. Because Alec, as they all found out less than a day ago, would have beenā¦ What, ten? Less than that, when Izzy was five? Which means he would have been at most five years out from when men whose faces had been peeled off barged in on his mind and metaphorically ransacked the place for information he didnāt even have. Maybe Clary would have needed time off, too. She suppresses a shiver, then tries to redirect the topic:

THE FAMOUS Time Between Us SERIE I JUST FINISHED IT DONT TALK TO ME
On the piece itself: Ink and pencils on paper. It was really fun to work with closer to the manga designs (according to what I gathered Aphrodite is blond but it is also mentioned that Shaka has a darker skin in one of the writing). Iām not used to pencil colorisation but I couldnāt picture another medium that would render as good and I was right.
Iām quite proud of it, and my head is still full of this serie please go read it. (Also for @terresdebrumestories do I have the permission to post this art on insta and bluesky, and if yes is there a proper way to tag and credit you?)

Oooooh I really like the composition in this!!! I like that this reads (to me) as sort of a rival/enemy ish pose because thatās definitely what they start as when theyāre sent through time!

OMG i love all your ideas! I also think he would move to Chelsea as a top flight option, but - and this depends on what we see in 3.11 in a BIG way, I may change my mind next week - I personally would actually love him to go back to City. Jamie would have been a Man City fan, and scouted by them, way before he even knew his dad. They were his first (there is an amazing fic that gets into these feelings if you're keen - https://archiveofourown.org/works/45790894/chapters/115233907 ) and if City is in his blood, he could never ever do Man United in my personal opinion. He would be publically abused by fans forever and ever and ever for it, and he in his heart I don't think could do it. I've actually really enjoyed the way that the show has shown him to not actually be triggered by City, like, the issue is his dad, not the club, he shows appreciation for the club and for Pep and it would be a childhood love. If he managed to get rid of his dad once and for all, I can see him claiming City as his own once more. But this upcoming episode may totally change how that's presented by the show. But I think Chelsea is one of the most perfect options and I love the idea of Roy returning there too.
I can't believe they didn't even give Roy's sister a first name on screen! Quite insulting. But I agree about Ruth and I've seen a few fics that use it, it's my favourite option for her name.

I think City would be an option also, I just tend to be a little fixated on the fact that he was obviously not happy there when he was young and I think a lot of it has to do with his dad. I guess it really depends on how much he repressed his trauma and whether or not he manages to untangle Tartt Sr from City (though I will say so far canon leans into 'he's okay with City' territory indeed^^)
Like you said though, we still have two episodes to see where they take Jamie and whether we want to ignore it or not :P

Also re: the City/United rivalry... yeah, I neglected to think of that xD I should have guessed tbh, two major clubs in one city is unlikely to result in friendship xD (And also I know enough of football to assume it would be quite difficult to go from PSG to L'OM so I can imagine the sort of treatmant Jamie would get :P)
I really loved your coming out fic but I was just curious if you meant the Europa League (the 2nd flight of Europe, as opposed to the top flight Champions League) or the CL when you said Europe League? Or did you mean the Euros with England? Do you imagine Jamie having played for Richmond his whole career, or moving on to other top flight teams to pursue more trophies? I would love to know what his life has looked like during that time, as well as the image of Phoebe at what must be about 18!
Also, interestingly - the UK doesn't actually enter a football team in the Olympic Games. This is not meant as a critique, but it's a fascinating factor of English football that I'm not sure many people who watch the show are aware of. The UK does the Olympics, for all sports, as Team GB, so England, Wales, Scotland and NI, but FIFA treats those countries as individuals. British football has resisted the Olympics because there's big fears that if they concede to being Team GB at football in the Olympics, it'll open the door to FIFA revoking individual country status for England, Wales and so on in other competitions. When London hosted in 2012, there WAS a Team GB at football, basically because they had to represent the national sport, but it wasn't made up of major professional players, there were like three veteran players and mostly youth players. It isn't something that pro footballers are involved in, especially because it falls the same year as the Euros. Roy, in 2012, for example, wouldn't have been in the Olympics, he would have been focused on winning the Champions League with Chelsea and then playing in the Euros with England. It's just a weird thing about English football, the Olympics is not an important part of it the way it is for other sports.

So, I know barely more than nothing around football, and my sport ancestry is a family full of basketball players, where competitions go from France Championship to Europe to World Championship, as far as I can tell (they're not pro players, though two of my cousins are angling for that) and so I figured it might be similar in football... turns out, nah xD
(Also I researched this fic for a grand total of ten minutes and five of those were spent on Mancunian grammar and accent, so. There's that :P)
All this to say, thanks again: I'll be modifying some stuff in the cleaned up fic x) Now, for the rest of your questions:
While I see why people like the idea of Jamie staying with Richmond his whole career, I can't say that's something I can really picture happening.
First of all, Jamie is competitive (as all high-level athletes are) and good enough to play with/against the biggest team, which AFC Richmond is not. It's presented as a medium club for the Premier League, and this is not something that easily changes in a perennial way, I think (both because they don't have the same resources as clubs like Manchester City (or United) to help maximise their players' potential, and because the funnel effect of bigger clubs will draw a lot of aces away.)
Second, this is a job, and Jamie has been shown to be a hard worker and fairly ambitious. Eventually, as he grows better, I think what Richmond asks of him will cease to be engaging enough for his taste, especially as the team changes with our current cast retiring or going to other clubs (Sam for example seems the type who would be happy to continue progressing as well, though of course that's probably true of all the teammates)
As to where Jamie goes...I don't think I know enough about Football to make an educated guess x) I don't think he would go back to City, if only because of the bad associations that already drove him away. I think by the time he makes peace with that, he'll probably have found another club to settle in. I do like the idea of him playing with the PSG or the Olympique de Marseille, purely because I like the idea of him spending time in my country and learning my language :P
(Also, Marseille would mean he wouldn't have to be freezing all the fucking time xD)
Poetically, I could see him ending in either Chelsea (closing the circle in his paralleling of Roy) or Manchester United (if you assume he's attached to his birth city enough to want to go back there, if not with the club he thought he would.)
Ultimately, I do think in a universe where he's in a stable relationship with Roy and Roy keeps training Richmond, Jamie would want to stay close by and probably not venture beyond Spain/Northern Italy so he could stay close to his loved one, but England is the endgame I see him work towards the most. I can still give him a stint in France so I can have him insult Richard and Van Damme in their birth language from time to time.
I do think he eventually grows close to Roy's sister (whom I named Ruth because I like the headcanon of the Kents as a Jewish family to mimic Brett Goldstein) and becomes a beloved surrogate uncle for Phoebe. My headcanon is that she remains a passionate football fan and player her whole life, and maybe even briefly entertains a professional career in the US (mostly because afaik women's football isn't as well paid in Europe, could be wrong), but ultimately decides she values the sport for its connection with beloved family rather than for itself, and remains at the amateur level.
I do think she's driven enough to actually end up a wildlife veterinarian, or her artistic aptitude (she draws those boobs real good y'all) take her in a bit of a different direction. Either way, I like to headcanon her as queer in some way, also because of the fascination with breasts, though in real life this isn't necessarily indicative of anything xD
Roy stays in Richmond, I think, unless Chelsea calls and begs him to get there. Mostly because my headcanon is that he picked Richmond as a retirement club because it's close to Chelsea and his family, and I don't think he'd want to move too far away again, especially if Ruth doesn't remarry.
This is about the extent of my thoughts on the subject tbh, although I never say never to writing more in any given universe so, who knows... we'll see if inspiration strikes xD
