Day 2: More

Stella: She’s a thing of beauty.
(Greg gave me full access to the Artois)
The original Trader Joe’s
Elijah Ferndock
I went with Uncle Greg this morning to a commercial casting Hollywood. He does this all the time, so I thought it be fun to at least see how they go. He had on his flannel and jeans, as the role was an Elijah Ferndock, a farmer who talks about growing funnel cakes for the Orange County Fair. I looked at his script in the car and he had me read through it. The director’s notes said “folksy voice”, so I added a Southern twang like they taught me in acting class…
It didn’t sound that bad, actually, and I felt pretty good about myself.
While Greg auditioned, I waited on a bench outside the room with a bunch of future Hollywood stars. Greg came out after a few minutes and I began to head for the door. He asked me to come in the auditioning room, where he introduced me to someone at a computer behind a camera. Greg told me to read the lines just like I did in the car. So, I said my name into the camera as I was directed to do so and I did my best Elijah Ferndock.
Hah, again, I felt pretty good about it.
It’s nice not having expectations. It’d be kind of funny to get a call back, but, either way, an experience of a lifetime.
Welcome to Greg & John’s (and Mr. Binks’)

7 Hour Bike Ride Looking for Home
Where's all the apartments?
Back in L.A.
The last 24 hours or so:
Got sick of having to go in the back door of a chinese family’s house to use the bathroom and couldn’t make sense of the shoes. (only one daughter…)
_____________________________
Madeline got in a dispute with her creepy yard helpers. They told her the WWOOFers just stand around and talk. (maybe surprisingly not true, mom and dad)
_____________________________
Sareena wanted none of it and packed her bags. Hah. She planned to stay somewhere else for the night.
_____________________________
We tried to calm Sareena.
She still took off. That’s fine. She’ll be back.
_____________________________
Christy and I took the bikes in town to see a movie. (I borrowed Sareena’s…)
_____________________________
The next thing I knew, Christy had us taking a cab to a theater that was much farther away than we both expected. Good movie. We came out. Dark, cold, and raining (also, I’m sick). We started to walk. It was closer to just go home and get the bikes in the morning. Would have had to ride them home in the dark/rain. I felt like shit anyway.
_____________________________
Yep, Sareena’s bike got stolen…
_____________________________
Christy pissed everyone off by not letting anyone be upset about the situation. (personality clashes) Sareena and I, in a sober and understandably upset manner, came to a reasonable decision about the bike.
_____________________________
Christy made a point to hold that she had no responsibility in all of it. Whatever.
Yet, in what seemed consistent to her overly expressive and inauthentic personality, repeatedly told us how “sorry” she was for us and how much she “cares for us”. Okay.
Sareena and I went to settle things at the bike store (minus Christy).
_____________________________
We all made up. I told Christy my frustration with the situation and her attitude and we all agreed it was time to get the hell out of Santa Barbara.
_____________________________
We made sure we left the place clean and dry.
_____________________________
Packed our bags.
_____________________________
And had a pretty darn good time driving to LA.
_____________________________
I’m staying with my friend Thom from AU for the night in Culver City (old Hollywood).
One of the girls that lives here sings or something and it’s kind of driving my crazy.
Maybe I’m just tired.
_____________________________
We’ll see.
We turned a compost pile (of shit).
Madeline wanted to build a shed.
That's nice.
Did I tell you about the time we planted newspaper?
Brings up the worms
Sareena got booby trapped.
Oh well.
Secret art studio had music coming from a room in the back...
