hi! i'm fox (you can also call me teto if you want), this is my sideblog for vocalsynth posting :D

my main blog is @foxgenderz and i will like and follow from there.

i originally got the idea for this blog a couple months ago because, well. i somehow perfectly tailored my youtube algorithm to recommend me very niche vocal synth producers that make really great songs, all while getting less than 1k views! my goal of this blog is to spread the word about these producers, while also being able to infodump about my own special interest in vocal synths and inviting others to, too :) overall, i just want to spread positivity and great music to everyone here in the community.

why you should listen: it's a very nostalgic-sounding song that brings you back to times of early vocaloid days. the cheerful tone sets you up for a comforting feeling while the lyrics are still relatable in a bittersweet way.

Rejected Diva ft. Momo Momone by Ya-P

... is a cover of a very new Pinnochio-p song that i really enjoy! posted on the 21st of May, it sits at 13k views :) this pinnochio-p song is originally made with miku's new v6 voicebank; and like a lot of his songs, it's a commentary on her non-humanity and how she really is just a voicebank at the end of the day. i love this take, it's something that you don't see a lot of other producers doing. through the lyrics of this song, miku (or in this case, momo) takes the listener through a sort of interview process- she's looking for a replacement for herself because she feels its time to retire. but she realizes throughout the song that she truly is just irreplaceable. this being the core of the song feels like a wholehearted love letter to vocaloid, and i really, really enjoy that. seeing so many different producers do covers of this song has really shown how many people agree with this sentiment, and it makes me very happy to see.

CHOCO MONAKA (ft. 初音ミク, 重音テト) by MEMODEMO

... is a super funky and upbeat track built to make you crave a tasty sweet treat!!! premiering may 16th, this video has a little over 2k views!

to start off, i LOVE the beat and overall funkiness of this track. it had me tapping my foot along to it the whole time. the bass is super heavy, and the drums are strong and make for such a great and consistent mood throughout the song. the synth parts really add to the feeling that it's a sweltering summer day; i'm not exactly sure how to describe it, if you listen you'll kind of see what i mean. my favorite part of this song has to be the section of the song where miku details basically her entire life revolves around choco monaka. she sings about how she wakes up thinking about it, leaves work to go get some, and would buy a million boxes if she could. i replayed the song looking forward to that part of the song the most times, lol

i don't feel like it's quite necessary to analyze the lyrics of this one, as it's a lighthearted song that doesn't really require further explanation lol, so i'd recommend just going and listening to it!

... is the second choice we have for cover song wednesdays! this video was uploaded on june 17th of 2023 and sits at about 5k views :)

Kiss Me, Son of God is the final track off of They Might Be Giants' album "Lincoln" and is also featured on their EP "(She Was A) Hotel Detective" - this song originally came out in 1988 and initially, John Linnell and John Flansburgh, singers of They Might Be Giants were afraid to come out with the song due to its shocking and intense lyricism. the religious theming, especially the aspects of criticizing christian and other adjacent religions, within the song, was bound to be seen as controversial. John Flansburgh said, "When Linnell first played me "Kiss Me, Son of God" my jaw just hit the floor. I was almost afraid to play the song publicly, because I was just thinking, "This is not going to be accepted." To be standing on stage singing "You love me, and I love me" just strikes me as a scary moment." - This quote was sourced from a 1989 issue of Details magazine, as per this page on TMBW.net

this cover features Kasane Teto's AI synthv voicebank, as well as the synthv Kevin added in for harmonies, which i personally really enjoy the sound of and i feel like fits the song very well :) the cheerful, swingy-ness of the song contrasts very well with the dark topic of the song, and the harmonies add to that quite nicely.

Talk To You Later [ Kasane Teto & Momone Momo ] This is the final music video for Crash Test! Shout out to the ARG solvers for unlocking this for everyone. Some backstory on this song… When I started development of my indie game Kitten Burst I came up with the idea of having my main character Hapi talk in the same way I used to talk when I was a preteen exploring the internet and chatting with friends. I decided to look at my old Facebook messages for research. While going through them I saw the icon for a friend of mine who had passed away a few years earlier due to complications from Cystic Fibrosis ( A genetic disorder my two sisters also battle against ). I hesitated, but then decided to click her profile and open our conversation. I read through our chats about Doctor Who and Vlogbrothers. Later when finishing the game, I decided to write this song about the bittersweet emotions I felt in that moment. It didn’t really work as an ending song for the game, but I think it fits perfectly on this album. Hold on to the friends you’ve got and never forget the ones you’ve lost. TTYL

... is the first track i have planned for cover song wednesdays! this was posted on october 10th, 2009(!!!!), where it was actually reuploaded from niconicodouga, (from which it was posted on 11/9 of 2007, by this user), making it over 18 years old!!!! it also has about 22k views on youtube but only 3k on NND!

Road to Nowhere is a song off of Talking Heads' 1985 album "Little Creatures". the lead singer of Talking Heads, David Byrne, described it as "a song that presented a resigned, even joyful look at doom" - and i think that this miku cover of it really takes it more into the joyful direction :) the song's upbeat tune is a complete contrast against the darkness of the lyrics, which is a common, but very well utilized trick in songwriting that i happen to enjoy a lot. overall, i love miku's a capella vocals in the background of this cover, along with an old voicebank, which really demonstrates how old of an upload this video is. i think the old voicebank goes well with the theme of this song though!

Crashout feat. Kasane Teto by Jam2go

... is a soul-filled track off of my current obsession, Jam2go's newest album, Crash Test! The album released April 24th and Crashout currently sits at 11k views on youtube :)

there's actually a whole ARG to go along with this album, which you can find here. i'm not going to be analyzing it (sorry!), i'm just going through the lyrics of crashout like i would a normal review! however i might revisit this album later if more comes out along with the ARG :3

this song starts off with a lyric that was stuck in my head for a hours; "Off and on I hear a noise / Like the refrigerator ghost" - i actually ended up just straightup asking jam2go about it on his blog, and one of my speculations was right! these lyrics refer to the strange noises the mechanical parts of a fridge make, like a ghost might if it were trapped inside of a machine. the instrumentals of the song feel smooth and transitional, it has calm guitar strums dispersed throughout the song, but contrasts with fast-paced drum beats and electronic synths near the middle and end. the second verse continues, "It’s just the latest / In a giant list of / All the ways I fall apart" - teto is singing about falling apart; in the music video, she's seen as a crash test dummy, something that is made to be destroyed and torn apart for the sake of other people's safety. "Sooner or later / You’ll crash your precious car / All of our bodies fall apart" she might feel dehumanized, purposeless, or perhaps like it's just another moment in the cycle of it all. the song continues into the next set of lyrics, "I don’t want to see a single scratch / They pulled out a body from a bog / And discovered she was perfectly intact" - i think the second part refers to the phenomenon of "bog bodies" - throughout history there have been times which ancient human bodies are discovered in peat bogs throughout the world, and they're often very well preserved because of the level of acidity in the water of the bog. in this case, the wreckage of this crash is being compared to a bog because the body found within it is so intact - perhaps because it was just a test dummy all along. as the lyrics continue, we get more visualization; "Wrap me in cellophane / Until completely mummified / Oh fill my pyramid to the top / With a heavy pour of formaldehyde" - teto sings about being mummified, being wrapped in cellophane instead of the traditional linens or cloth, maybe because she herself feels artificial. she wants to be filled with formaldehyde, a common agent used in taxidermy, so she can be preserved forever. lyrics from before repeat, but they have a different feeling to them now. "Sooner or later / You’ll crash your precious car / All of our bodies fall apart" to me, this now feels like it's more about the inevitability of time, and that feeling is stressed more with the ending lyrics. "Why's it not the same / 'Cause I haven't changed / Please never change / Oh, Please never change"
