YOU WROTE MY NAME IN GALLIFREYAN OH MY GOD THAT'S SO COOL THANK YOU
i feel stupid for asking this but what do you have to do to consider yourself part of a fandom? like, is it enough to like the band/show/whatever and reblog pictures of it every now and then?
Whatever you want. If you want to say you're part of the fandom, then go ahead.
I have ideas for some of the fandoms you marked, whats the best way to get those ideas to you?
The submit box works pretty well
Which ask box am I supposed to send requests to? Both fandom-mused and fandom-mused-fandom-games say to send requests to their ask boxes...
Either. Trying to regulate one would be too hard. I just look through my entire inbox anyways, so it's all mixed together.
I love you... and we should eat pizza and watch movies together and then when we get tierd of eachother we each get our computers and sit in separate corners and blog...
Yes okay this sounds perfect
Do you update the list of fandoms on the fandom-mused-fandom-games blog? I don't see my fandom there, and I know you have a lot of asks, but I also know Tumblr tends to eat my messages, so I was wondering about that.
Yes, but I wait until I get a few requests for the same fandom because I currently have a lot of random fandom requests and unfortunately, I can't make one for every tiny fandom that comes along.
There's also a possibility that I ignored it because I've already made the posters and they were simply overlooked, because I get a lot of asks for posters that have already been made too, so if it's a large fandom, I would look again.
How do you feel about the fandom project? Do you feel overwhelmed? Proud of how big the response is?
Very overwhelmed, very proud, and very very tired. I woke up half an hour ago with my face stuck to the keyboard and a half-vectored poster.
Just curious, why did you tag the HP fandom with Harmony?
I actually tagged most the original fandoms with the ships I knew if I knew any. I took a few of them away though. For example I'm 90% sure I tagged Supernatural with Destiel and tagged Doctor Who with Whouffle. I only did it to the first ones because I was really afraid that I was gonna get like 2 notes on the HP one and one 6 notes on the DW one and then it was just gonna stop.
I always knew there were three options for the project: Nobody sees it, it becomes moderately big but still not well known (the one I was expecting, or it becomes so big it annoys the shit out of everybody. At that point I was just scared I would get the first, but expecting the second. I never dreamed I would get the third, but here I am.
You're so creative! <33 the ideas so far!
Aww! Thank you!
I feel like a lot of the things you're doing don't actually have fandoms? They have fans but fans =/= fandom. Like for example Spider-Man, everyone loves Spider-Man, no argument there, but it doesn't really have a fandom per se. Wouldn't generalizing it in to like, a Marvel category be better? Same thing could be said about many others, like Invader Zim? There is really no fandom there. get separating the Avengers from Marvel because it has a huge fandom though.
I've actually been getting this argument and the "My fandom is bigger than DDR! Why don't you include it!" argument a lot, so thank you for sending it to a blog where I can answer.
I have a process with picking the fandoms. I read through as many asks as possible, and if a fandom shows up 2-3 times, I add it to the list of ones to be done. If it shows up 10-20 times, I put it on the list in bold. And then I just go down the list, trying to do the ones in bold first. I got at least 3 requests for a Spider-Man fandom poster, so I made a Spider-Man fandom poster. With the new movie, a lot of new fans came and made a fandom. I got at least 3 requests for DDR, so I made a DDR fandom poster. The fandom may be tiny, but they wanted a poster bad, so a lot of them sent in asks. I don't decide "Hey I think this fandom's big enough" because many of these I've never even heard of before, but there are apparently a lot of people in the fandom. I have rules to make things fair, and I follow them. That's it.
I don't think you should have cut moon moon out of the project. It's a great representation as it shows the sense of humor and many people relate to it. Plus its your thing you don't have to listen to anyone really if they don't like it they can make their own flag
But that kind of defeats the purpose. The whole point of this is to make as many people happy as possible, whether it's just their fandom being acknowledged, or just seeing everybody together. I don't want to hurt anybody with this, so I'm definitely not going to include something that I know hurts people.
Hi! I was just wondering, when do you think you'll start the actual flag? Like, when will you stop counting the reblogs?
That is to be decided. Basically when I stop waking up to 800+ messages every morning, cause that means I got enough fandoms in.
Thanks for going through all this trouble. I am sure your flag will look amazing when this is over :D Future apologies if you have already answered this, but I was wondering if you were going to let us know when you've finished making all of the symbols. Also, when is the deadline for reblogging?
I'll let you know when I'm done, and the deadline will be decided when I finish making the posters. I can promise it'll be at least a week from today, but right now its looking more like a month.
YOU ARE AWESOME (DON'T LISTEN TO THEM. THEY WISH THEY'D COME UP WITH THIS COOL IDEA)
asdfghjkl; thank you! honestly the only complaints I've gotten are from people who can't figure out tumblr savior. the rest of you are wonderful and perfect and really supporting and I love you all. <3
When and why do want to do this for tumblr folk the fandom pictures I mean(not hating just curious I want to know your answer.) And how it all started? Was it a "for the people" kind of deal?
Well, I have a lot of reasons. I think anybody would need a lot of reasons to try anything this big.
I've always been curious about the actual size of each fandom, partially cause fights break out but more just pure curiosity, and I thought this would be a good way to learn
Personally I've wanted to do a lot of things with a lot of Tumblr's biggest fandoms but I never had a good list until now
It's almost Summer and I'm bored
I really think that Tumblr needs a flag. Something that we can throw up there when we finally get that kid his fluffy chicken. Something we can all recognise and look up to. I never imagined I'd be the one to actually make it, and I'm still not sure I am, but It definitely needed to be made. Tumblr is a nation. A stateless nation, but still a nation, and every nation needs a flag.
Ever since I joined Tumblr I wanted one post that I could look back on and say "You remember that? That was mine."I didn't exactly want to be "Tumblr famous", I just wanted that one thing that everybody knew. That thing that in a year or two I'll see somebody reblog and say "Hey, remember when you did this?" at which point I'm sure I'd roll my eyes and respond "Don't remind me." This is my home, and I wanted my legacy here. This project seemed like it'd be the perfect thing - something that could make everybody happy. Sure it's annoying now, but I'm sure I'll laugh when I make a new one for the hell of it next year and watch everybody freak out again.
I kind of made a new reason when I made this post about yahoo. That was when I realized that Tumblr really doesn't have a coherent list of large fandoms readily available, and when I saw the reactions from the Transformers fandom, I saw how much it meant to people to be remembered. I wanted to make more people feel like they weren't forgotten.
Not really a reason, as just a spark that lit the rest and actually got my butt into motion, was the response from a friend after I made that post about yahoo. I said something like "I've gotten a couple complaints that I forgot a fandom" and his response was something like "Well you can't include them all without ruining the aesthetics". After you're around me for a while, you learn not to say stuff like that to me, because it is always met with "bitch don't challenge me" and I haven't lot a challenge yet. We'll see how this one turns out.
ahhh much better
seriously guys
if you don't like the posts showing up then jUST BLACKLIST IT. IT'S NOT THAT HARD
