The One Where Frank Leaves after Catching Annabeth & Percy Sleeping in the Stables & The Conversation that Follows
From the Mark of Athena — Rated G (I’m pretty sure!)
“Oh gods.” Annabeth slapped her hand over her mouth once Frank was out of earshot. “Percy, that was mortifying.” She slumped back on the blanket. Her ears were still red, a funny contrast to the tangled golden hair that fell over her shoulder.
“Nothing happened,” Percy could barely hold back his smile. “I told him the truth. We just kissed a couple of times.”
Annabeth threw her arm over her eyes. “That’s not the point, Seaweed Brain.” She suddenly sat up, shoving his chest lightly. “We’re gonna look like idiots in front of the rest of them. How irresponsible does this make us look?” She shook her head. “I’m supposed to be a leader here. And now I look like some giddy, pining girlfr-“
Percy gently cupped her face and kissed her before she could finish her sentence. “We haven’t seen each other in months. I don’t think they really care that we wanted to be alone.”
Annabeth looked down at the glass panes they were sitting on. “I just feel like I have something to prove. I’m worried about Athena.” She sighed. “And I’m worried we won’t be able to hold this group together.”
Percy took her hands in his. “Annabeth, you’re the bravest, most capable demigod on this ship.” She looked up at Percy, stormy eyes softening in the dull light. He nudged her shoulder. “Forget that. The bravest, most capable, most annoyingly intelligent, seriously beautiful-“ Annabeth rolled her eyes, beaming. She threw her arms around his neck.
“Well, good luck, Seaweed Brain.”
“Good luck?” Percy brushed the wisps of curls that framed her face back.
“Good luck to you for the absolute nightmare Coach Hedge is gonna be we go up there.”
Percy raised his eyebrows in mock surprise. “Just me?”
“I’m not the one with the troublemaker reputation,” Annabeth smirked. She patted his cheek and unhooked her arms.
“Oh come on,” Percy complained, trying to use his best pleading eyes. “Don’t I get a kiss for good luck? It’s kind of a tradition.”
Annabeth stood up, extending her hand to help Percy up. She was still smiling. “Let’s come back alive, then we’ll see.”
Y’all see what I did there^ :)
