Recorded most of the keyboard parts today!
Silverlake, CA | March 2013 | Steven Ray Morris
I found my kazoos!
Some ukulele recording today.
Doing a modified RPM Challenge this year and feeling really good about it.
"Chewie, we're home."
“…the cool embrace of the night” is a mantra and hymn about stepping out and then stepping back in again. It’s a baritone ukulele ode to perseverance that transforms into something mightier, just like all of us.
The song is included on the new full-length release by Thank Goodness, The Autumn Fall, a collection of Halloween-inspired tunes written and recorded during last year’s 13 Days 13 Shorts Festival. Check out the album, available now!
Steven Ray Morris is a Los Angeles-based author and an okapi in his next life. He cohosts a podcast about cats called The Purrrcast and his book about the Jurassic Park franchise, Molding A Jurassic Universe, was released earlier this summer via Thought Catalog Books. Super proud of this song!
16 track album
Last October I agreed to write songs for all thirteen days of the 13 Days 13 Shorts Festival 2014, a yearly celebration of all things Halloween, if I was unemployed. Well, it turns out I had just quit my last job at the time so I was put to task.
The Autumn Fall is the result of the delightful and at times maddening effort to write, record, mix, and master songs based off the themes of that year. It contains folktale-esque ramblings about The Hobbit and Sleepy Hollow, EDM-lite songs about sugar skulls and Disney’s Halloweentown, shoegaze jams about turnips and haunted houses, an Imogen Heap-aping tune about Alien from the perspective of Lt. Ripley’s cat, and even a gritty jazz tune about that one really bad X-Files episode with vampires.
For 2015 I remastered all thirteen of these spooky tunes plus two older 13 Days 13 Shorts songs from 2012 and 2013, AND I wrote and recorded a brand new song for this year’s festival based on today’s theme ‘Night.’ Halloween is my favorite holiday and Fall is my favorite season even if I live in Los Angeles. Come celebrate the insanity with me. Don’t forget to bring your pumpkin spice everything.

It’s been exactly one year since the release of Sunday Morning Ambience, my first record under the Thank Goodness moniker. Written, recorded, mixed, and mastered in a flurry during the month of February for the RPM Challenge, I’m still really proud of these tunes. Take another listen if you haven’t in awhile.

I recorded this video for "Regression Song: or, Let's Get The Hell Out Of The Holocene" on my last day living on the east side of Los Angeles. less than a month later I also left my job. I'd been at both for over three years. This song, and video, examines the dismantling required to make changes in your life. I hope you enjoy it.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!
Here to play us out is Thank Goodness who has written songs for each of the 13 Days themes.

The two previous 13 Days 13 Shorts I did Hobbit related Halloween songs. Of course I had to do a 3rd and final one this year.
You can take a listen to the other two:
- 2012's "Goblin-Town (Down Down)"
- 2013's "Baby, I'm The Necromancer"
Keep the jams coming! Here’s Thank Goodness’s song for Jack-O-Lantern!
Fun fact: This is actually Steven’s second 13 Days song about jack-o-lanterns.

Did you know turnips are used to make jack-o-lantern's too?
