I don’t get why people hate luther from the umbrella academy? he was abused and manipulated his entire childhood just like the rest of his siblings and it carried on WELL into adulthood while all of the other siblings escaped it. his father instilled a false sense of importance in him, making him constantly feel the need to prove himself worthy of being #1, yet never feeling quite important and valuable enough to actually be loved and cared for. he demonstrated immense loyalty and dedication to his father, hoping that maybe his father would eventually see him as a son. his father sent him on dangerous missions, and he continued to risk his life to make his father proud. his father turned him into mutant against his will and then couldn’t stand the sight of his own creation afterwards. he finds out his 4 years of complete isolation on the moon was part of a fake mission; that the time he spent up there was a complete waste of time and it helps him realize that he wasted half of his life trying to make his father care for him instead of making friends, being healthy and independent, and enjoying life like a normal kid, teenager, and adult. then the woman he’s been in love with since childhood almost dies, and his sister has a mysterious, dangerous, uncontrollable power. and people are mad at him because he decides to lock her away while they decide what to do about it? first of all he’s SCARED. second of all he’s angry because the love of his life almost DIED. and lastly, he never once said that it was a permanent solution; he made it pretty clear that he was doing it to keep everyone safe until they could figure out what to do about the situation. he made some poor choices but so has every single character in the show and to hate/make fun of luther despite the fact that he was abused just as much if not more than his other siblings honestly just makes me sad.
